Three men checked into a hotel room for which they paid $30. The next day, the manager realized that the men had been overcharged. She gave the bellhop $5 to return to the three men. On the way to their room the bellhop decided to keep $2 for himself, and give each of the three men one dollar. The three men had now paid $9 each, or a total of $27. This plus the $2 the bellhop kept makes a total of $29. What happened to the other dollar? |
|
Coolness: 340610
| 30 - 5 = 25
25 + 3 = 28
28 / 3 = 9.333333_
how did you come up with them each paying $9 ? |
|
Coolness: 510505
| Each man pays 10$ at first, then gets back one dollar. therefore each man paid 9 dollar because 10 -1 = 9 |
|
Coolness: 340610
| well the statement "The three men had now paid $9 each" is simply not true.

Nothing happened to the "other" dollar.
They each payed 10$. The hotel manager gave $5 to go back to them. The $5 can't be divided into 3 people equally. If the bellhop keeps $2, and gives them each $1, then there is no extra $1 left over and they all payed $9 for their room. |
