they did not send them to be destroyed. They did it so they can be studied. But someone (In canada) studying it figured it was a bad thing to do so, that it was too dangerous to deal with and shuold be destroyed and not studied. So now they are asking every lab to destroy it. (Oh sorry, i mean modify/change it so it becomes something that is not alive nor a virus)

ya, it was a long read, so i didnt complete it, but my 2 cents are:

the virus was already contained 40 years ago. All that is left of it are samples. If you destroy the samples, there will be no more of this virus. Until another 'souche' mutates in the same fashion (which is highly unlikely, since nature tries things once).

I wonder if you have ever heard about the time some scientists tried to kill some bugs/bacteria that were eating away at crops. They used some product to try and do that. What happened? The bug/bacteria came back, immune to the product they used to try and get rid of it.
Nature tries things only once? What do you mean? Can you give me an example? Okay, nature does nothing in vain and so would not try the same thing again-- in my example nature cam back with a bacteria/bug that was resistant to the chemicals ,,,,??!!

"The samples were burned in hopes that that would destroy the virus. Again, nothing can be created or destroyed, it just changes form. I assume that the particles would go in the air. Have you noticed that many more people have been getting sick these past couple/few years? Perhaps, it is in part because of the presence and the attempt at destroying this virus. How come the media doesn’t make that connection? Just because they do not mention something, it does not mean that it is not the case. "

now you are pushing too far. Burning a virus transforms it into NOT a virus. I wont argue you could get lung cancer from air polution, but it wont be the virus's doing. Its dead, done.

it's dead, done--by burning it -- are you sure?
Why are you so convinced that it will be transformed into not a virus?

I think you underestimate the scientist. Don't think they aer careless, they don't want to die. Maybe in some poor country poorly equipped, but they wouldnt send samples of deadly viruses to those places.

I do not want to underestimate the scientists. I think people in geenral overestimate them. They are not necessarily careless. Sometimes, in general, I think people have too much faith in technology and we think we know what we're doing, when we don't know everything.

"One of the principles of science is that nothing can created or destroyed"

again, you are abusing the principle. Here's a blunt example: I can kill jean charest. He will not affect quebec anymore. He wasnt destroyed, but 'transformed' into something that is no more a problem. That is what they are going to do.

Using your reasoning... if you kill jean charest, he may affect quebec still -- his presence in a memory lives on. If you kill him, more people may grow to be a problem like him. Killing jean charest is not really an appropriate solution-- there will still be people like charest.. so what are we going to do --kill them too? There is still a difference between killing jean charest and killing a virus-- but there;s an underlying principle that links them together.

Actually, you'd be surprised how happy I am. I know what misery is-- I used to be misery but I made peace with that part of myself. Me, not trying to think things througgh and question things would be cause to worry.

my intention is not to try to make people worry-- we can reason things out--there's no need to worry. There is a need to question things.

People have heard that the authorities of our countries refrain from telling us things, which may scare us. Such as when there was the potential of an asteroid hitting us-- they did not tell the public to avoid panic. Why would people panic, if they are not afraid to die? If people are afraid to die, ought we to continue keeping them sheltered so they become even more afraid to die?

Actually, I can see the media making themselves feel better by saying " I don't want to be an alarmist". -- making others worry needlessly.

you could call me what you want, maybe you even just proved it.

Okay, a guy I know has been saying that there will be a nuclear war on the US. may 5th. The reason--none in particular. I think this is more in the alarmist category.

Learn your physics, yes this is a true statement, but you have greatly misinterprated it.

It means that MATTER cannot be created or destroyed, is just changes form, if you burn a mass it is tranformed into heat energy, amongst other things, you cant in any way use this as an argument to justify that `burning`
(and I use quotes because they do not burn a virus in the conventional sense, thay say that so ppl will understand that bottom line)
a virus does not release parts of it in the air and promote more risk of infection.

and anything that is transformed into heat energy cannot be harmful? Do we know all there is to know about matter and the destruction of it? Are you sure? What makes you think that a virus could not be released into the air when "burning" it? How do you know?

Not to meantion, do you think they have a big camp fire OUTSIDE and burn a burnch of viles, letting the debrees fly in to the air? Come on, they have higly equiped facilities for this kind of thing,

Of course, highly equipped facilities-- you're right there's no need to worry. whatever, I know they have highly equipped fascilities-- but are you willing to allow that these fascilities can maybe not contain everything that enters it-- ? That some things we just don't know now?

I hardly watch the news for your info-- but oh yeah, out of sight, out of mind. I get much more pleasure from attempting to see the biases companies/media promotes--

Who says that planet earth ever has to end? Maybe, it will from our own doing, maybe it won't. maybe we can control how long we live on planet earth by the quality of our lives. Maybe, we will not succeed at doing this and annihalate ourselves. Maybe, the scientist on tv is right the sun is going to burn out in a million years so now matter what we do we're going to die.

I try to not let people define my existence for me. After all there is an epidemic of people just "going with the flow" to the point where they are just following popular opinion. At worse, it can be slightly stressfull to think about things for oneself, confronting beliefs that one's hold, which may be false. It's not always easy.

As einstein said " Question everything with a holy curiosity.."

dear cincerella soul:

That post is written by something that is so stupid, if I took its tiny brain and rolled it down the edge of a razor blade, it would be like a lone car going down a six lane highway. Just as the strength of a solitary brick will not save a poorly built structure, your bold typeface does not redeem your craven incoherent words.

Trying to get something of value out of your post is like trying to squeeze orange juice out of an apple. You must have a very large brain to hold such a vast amount of sheer ignorance. You've got a big hole in your head, now shut it. When you are at a loss for words, your loss is our gain. Oh well, as the late Douglas Adams said: "You live and learn. At any rate, you live."

You have that certain nothing. Truly, you are about as interesting as watching a slug move slowly across a large rock. I'd get more pleasure from running my nostrils down a cactus, than reading another contribution from you. Maybe you wouldn't come across as such a jellyfish-sucking mental midget if you didn't have that botched back street lobotomy that left you that crisscrossed shoelace scar on your forehead; if your weren't so fat that you look like The Michelin Man man on steroids, or if you didn't have a face designed exclusively for radio. Who am I kidding? You would.

In conclusion, why don't you go away and play Russian roulette with all chambers fully-loaded?

Perfect thread for some fight club quotes

Tyler Durden: Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else.

You are not how much you have in the bank.
You are not the contents of your wallet.

but are you willing to allow that these fascilities can maybe not contain everything that enters it-- ? That some things we just don't know now?

Why are you trying to get people scared?
You're completely ignorant. You don't know what protacols and safety procedures they go through. You act like you could contain the virus better yourself.

As for your friend having classified government intelligence about a nuke war, highly unlikely.

Oh no, we only have a MILLION years to go until our sun burn out! Guess what? We'll most likely have starships by then.

Guess what? A fed Ex van carrying ebola and anthrax crashed just down the street from me and nothing happened.
