i just got a laptop for christmas and i was wondering since i live in an area with a whole bunch of wireless internet connections floating around, is there any way to use them for the net without actually having to subscribe? i'm assuming i'd need some sort of software? also, is there a way to get into secured networks or can you only use unsecured?

i'd really appreciate any help !!!

there are ways to crack into a secured network, but those require cracking the wep encryption codes and listening for a password. Too complicated: just use the unsecured ones, which i pretty much garantee that will float around because some people plug everything with defaults on.

If you have the wireless card, i don't think you need any extra software if the card detects the connection, from memory.

Yeah it's mad easy, if the network says it is not secured, anyone can access it. If you are downtown you normally don't have to try more than a few before finding one that works

even the unsecured networks ask me for a user name and password though. :( i guess i'll just keep trying different ones.

i was thinking more along the lines of warsittingonmyass downloading shit.

see the problem is my cpu detects at least one strong signal but it won't let me log on to it without supplying a username and pass.

is there any way to bypass this?

There is no easy way, if the network is not secured then you don't put in any password or login, it just works.
