I never liked POP mail.
anytime you want to access your mail you'd have to be at your computer..

webmail allows access to it anywhere.. and if you're going to say there's webmail apps that work with POP, they only allow for new messages to be seen. not those that you've held on to.

my mail server is pop and web based. You can configure an imap server to let you keep messages on you webmail. You can also configure a POP server to do the same thing......I look at messages I have held onto all the time.

it's an option available if you install the correct software on your pop server, all of the people who have email addresses at [ repenttokyo.com ] can access their email from the web in this fashion.

well, considering just about all people who have POP mail are using their ISP's POP.. it'll never happen..

that, and the fact that POP accounts aren't permanent..

i've changed ISPs 7 times in the past 6 years.
I'd hate to see how many lost emails i'd have had i used any of those POP accounts...

i don't understand.....if you want email service that follows you around, then pay for it. no one is asking you to rely your isp. and also, i would challenge that stat that most people use their isp's email service - most people use the email at their office. additionally, not everyone changes isp's as much as you do. I have moved to 3 cities in the last 5 years, moving about 7 times in terms of households, and I have been with videotron that entire time.

why pay for it when it's available for free??
how many hundreds of millions of hotmail accounts are there?

webmail is defenitly the email of choice.

why pay for it? because i need many many email addresses that reflect my record label and band.

free webservice is a shitty compromise. You get exactly what you pay for. Do you host your website on geocities? no. why not? because it sucks. and because it doesn't give off a professional image.

Imagine applying to a job with a hotmail email address. Your resume gets laughed at in the technology sector.

you think i'd be laughed at if i had a free webmail account?

i've seen the business cards of major movie studio reps. using hotmail accounts..

if you laugh at someone who uses a googlemail account, sorry, but that's weak.

well, weak or not, it happens. I work in the technology sector, if job applicants apply with a hotmail address as their contact info, that's pretty "weak".
i dunno about you, but i would seriously question how "major" a studio rep was if he had a hotmail account on his business card.
