HOLY CRAP!

they just started a revolutionary service!!

"We're excited to announce the free upgrade to your MSN® Hotmail® service starts today with free Anti-virus Protection!"

AND..

"In addition, MSN continues to heavily invest in tools and technologies to help protect your e-mail from spam as well as viruses and worms. Today, MSN Hotmail blocks about 95 percent of incoming junk e-mail, or nearly 3 billion pieces of spam daily from ever reaching inboxes and we have you to thank! "

that is SO impressive.. wait. 5% of 3 billion..? that's 150 million spam emails that they let by.. that really IS impressive..

i should ditch my gmail account that never gets ANY spam, not even from the gmail admins themselves (unlike hotmail) and go back to my hotmail account..

and as for "targetted advertising".. guess what if you accept cookies from any company like "doubleclick", you're being targeted.

hell, have you ever read the endlessly updated ULA for hotmail? i bet you hotmail targets ads the same way.

and tell me why it's bad to have properly targeted ads? you think they're gonna run vagisil ads during a football game? no, their target audience isn't women.

i would much prefer to watch a movie and have trailers that have been targeted to my interests, than have a trailer for two brothers playing..

it's deleted in the sense that you can't see it anyumore. but it is still kept on their servers for an indefinite period of time.
hotmail does NOT target ads the same way and yaho released a public statement that they would NEVER target ads the same way. If you want a company to scan your email and send you targetted advertising, then that is your choice. I don't send email to gmail addresses - that is my choice. It's not at all analagous to cookies because cookies do not scan the content of my personal messages.

you are completely free to do whatever you want, I am just expressing my opinion.

no, they just tell doubleclick what sites your visiting since they're they lasrgest cookie tracking company out there..

there are many sites that advertise with them, and everyone of them allows doubleclick to see what sites you've been looking at..

*blank stare*

did i not say:

"cookies from companies like doubleclick most certainly do track your movements on thousands of sites.."

thousands of sites.. thousands of sites that advertise with doubleclick... but hey, that's *just* doubleclick, there are hundreds of other similar companies that target ads on you based on what sites they see you go to..

hahaha

yeah, turn off cookies.. that sounds like the ideal solution.

you totally don't get it. targetted ads based on what you write, who cares.. ? gmail admins aren't going through reading your emails, their search AI is. So what's so bad about that?

i don't want the contents of my messages examined and interpreted. if you do, then that's your decision. i value my privacy more than you do. I don't have to send mail to gmail accounts, it doesn't afffect ME in the least.
