Medicating Happiness

What does it say about our society when so many of us need to be on drugs 24/7 just to function within it and adhere to its demands?
Whether its prescribing a generation of schoolkids amphetamines to boost their performance at school, or medicating away sadness with a script for SSRI's, it seems as if our society has turned to drugs to keep the ball rolling. But maybe the problem resides not with the individuals who are given drugs to fix them, but with the society that prounounces them broken in the first place. Perhaps there is something very profoundly wrong with our system, and the expectations placed on us as its members, and drugs are a tool to keep the average person placated with a life that would otherwise be unbearable. Maybe we need to collectively throw away our scrips, and instead insist on addressing the root cause of just what is wrong with this society when drugs become neccesary to cope. |

completly agree with you on this candy...
we had a discussion about this in my "individu et société" class, people sometimes just need to step away from the beeps, horns and other city-linked noises and smell the roses (which makes me realize that I'm allergic to "grains" ... says the doctor that shoved something up my nose last summer - whatever that means) |

we're raised to think that medication is the only way to be relieved of problems. Get a headache, take some aspirin. Got a sore thrat, take some cough syrup. Can't sleep, atke some valium.
It's no wonder we grow up alcoholics and drug users, we're taught from day one that the only way to feel better when something goes wrong is to medicate it away. |

I'm supposed to be taking anti-anxiety/anti-depressives.. I don't.. I'd rather be an eccentric artist then a mundane zombie..
But I know a few people who I wouldn't want ot be around if they WEREN'T on medication... But it's all a matter of degree.. Only people with very serious problems should be prescribed mind-altering pills |

I really think society creates a lot of the problems, I mean when I was in elementary/high school teachers didn't like me cause I would point out their mistakes and hack all the school computers... Hell they could have harnest my talents for the good of society but instead I became what I am now.... |

paxil makes you super damn moody. also, it makes you feel entirely desensitized towards anything. |

Paxil isn't used by montreal psychiatric practice anymore because studies have shown that it can have extreem negative effects on younger people. |
