SITUATION A DOUBLE STANDARD

The situation with a local student school president caught with marijuana on school grounds is a perfect example of the double standards and hypocrisy within our "system of law" today.

Due to the "smoke screen" produced by the student's "lawyer" father, a very important fact has been overlooked. The student broke the law under Oregon Revised Statute 475. If it had been someone of "little importance," they would most likely have been suspended or expelled and would have been before a court of law, and would have probably spent some time in the "juvenile detention center." Possession of an illegal substance is against the law. Possession of drug paraphernalia is against the law. Possession of an illegal substance within 1000 feet of a school is against the law. Possession of drug paraphernalia within 1000 feet of a school is against the law. Marijuana and the devices for using it fit into these categories unless medically prescribed by a licensed physician.

Am I saying throw the book at the student? No! If the student were honorable, he/ she would most likely resign from the school office.

I am saying this is a perfect example of the law not applying to those who write, implement, interpret, and enforce the law, and this is what "we" are teaching our children.

It is nice to have friends and family in high places, wouldn't you agree? Equal process, yeah, right.

Wake up people.

What are we teaching our children?
