DETECTIVES HELD IN DRUG CASE TO BE RELEASED
Two decorated New York City police detectives accused of transporting
cocaine and heroin out of the state will be released from federal detention
on bonds of $2 million each but will remain under house arrest, a judge
ruled yesterday.
At a hearing in Federal District Court in Brooklyn, the judge, Magistrate
Robert Levy, ordered that the defendants, Willie Parson and Steven Fuller,
wear monitoring devices after their release on Monday.
On Wednesday, the F.B.I. arrested the detectives, both 43, on federal drug
conspiracy charges, which both have denied.
According to court papers, the officers were hired as couriers by a
Colombia-supplied drug ring based in Queens. Investigators have said that
dealers paid the detectives up to $3,000 to use their private cars to
deliver kilos of cocaine and heroin to customers in Detroit and Baltimore.
