From Wikipedia:

Raoul Duke was the pseudonym used by Hunter S. Thompson for the character based on him in his book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Fear and Loathing was originally written under the name Raoul Duke, and Thompson periodically used the pen name for some of his later articles.

I got my idea!

Though he's getting more and more popular as of late, I'll be going as Raoul Duke.

Fisherman hat, aviator glasses, hawaian shirt, briefcase full of drugs, a fly swatter and fake bats hanging from the hat. Perfect.

Well, fake drugs, sadly. I don't have that much money to spend on a costume.

Any idea? We got a Halloween day at the office and I have no clue what I want to wear. None of this pirate/dracula/stereotype shit.

And unless I can convince half the people here to dress up as a zombie mob, I'll have to find something original.

What are YOUR costume plans for Halloween?

Error! Killing Zoe has the worst excuse for a "French Canadian" ever seen in movies.

I didn't like it too much. The actors were great... the movie felt a bit too... I don't know... it kept on going and gradually got more and more boring.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels!

(or anything with Vinnie Jones... like Survive Style 5!)

I don't have a top favorite. I have movies that I like more than others but not one that ranks above all else.

Shaun of the Dead.
Falling Down and Taxi Driver (love'em both as much)
The Thing.
Cape Fear.

Well, mostly horror / suspense movies.

Infected people hiding their wounds, are.

In the end, though, all it matters is whether or not you enjoy the movies. :P And I do. I do realize that the category would fit quite a lot of movies, including Big Mama's House. I try to narrow it down to horror.

Check my post update prior to yours as for Night.

They Live... My point, as I stated, was a "them against us but we're too busy bickering, to properly defend ourselves". It stays true with They Live. The Alley Fight, the refusal to believe the truth, the betrayal of a few humans. Definitely not the only message and definitely not as powerful but it was still there: too busy with our petty lives to notice aliens are controlling and manipulating us. Though the anti-govt state IS the strongest point of the movie.

As far as The Thing goes, it's the same "thing". Them against Us, even if the "them" is one organism. It kills and replicates and does not really care to control but to survive. True. But the view the humans have of this remain the same. At a time like this, alliances are moot and mistrust abound. MacReady's return from the cold shack after being betrayed and the ensuing skirmishes are notable. Too busy proving a point. However, MacReady finds the way to stop all this, for a while (the testing of the blood).

They are not the same movies, of course. And by your standards and views, they are quite different. By mine, they fit the same category. "We have more pressing matters than proving who's dick is the biggest" cetegory.

Update » Haha wrote on Fri Sep 15, 2006 @ 4:34pm
Minou, neither am I. Shaun of the Dead, however, is. You can't change a title because you don't want it spelled the normal way.

Right, Meenhoux?

Exactly. And for that reason, They Live, The Thing, all that... they all are about the same thing: we're too focused on our differences and pettiness to save ourselves.

Update » Haha wrote on Fri Sep 15, 2006 @ 4:09pm

Update » Haha wrote on Fri Sep 15, 2006 @ 4:16pm
An interesting update, Screwhead. I didn't see it that way. However, how could we know that the door would have stood a zombie attack?

Let us not forget the zombified little girl who killed the mother while everyone was looking away! Imagine her waking up while everyone is down. The noise would have attracted the zombies from outside.

Ben HAD good ideas... Just not excellent ones.

A question I've always wondered is why is Romero so fixed on having a cool-headed black protagonist? Even in Land, though zombified, the black man seemed like the "pure" guy in the movie.

I don't see zombie movies that way (or invasion movies). I see them as "outside influence forcing a few people to break their social barriers in order to survive".

The whole point of Night of the Living Dead was to show that not every red-blooded White American has the ideal solution and the heroic Black Man can save the day... mostly.

It wasn't about zombies at all.

I saw Fear no Evil. Worse movie with zombies. The DVD Back cover says that it's zombie fest, due to the arrival of the Anti-Christ. The movie, however, is really about a guy who looks like a Rocky Horror Picture Show wannabe, in drag, fighting angels with a zombie CAMEO (that is, they're really only there in the last ten minutes for no good reason).

Canadian laws require a re-fitting of the cartridges to only allow 10 rounds.

Update » Haha wrote on Thu Sep 14, 2006 @ 3:01pm
Actually, I read that incorrectly.

"The law sets a maximum capacity of five cartridges for magazines designed for a semi-automatic, centre-fire long gun such as the Beretta CX4 Storm rifle. A 10-cartridge magazine with a CX4 Storm stamp on it is prohibited unless it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than five cartridges.".
