peterparker, negativity being expressed towards elevation on this thread was not initiated by the organizers of the related event (point one)

yes, we know of many families that are not a part of this -unfortunately, but i think it's safe to say that the mandate of the event is collaboration, unification, and welcomeness.. obviously since idj memebers are playing at elevation its kinda silly to ask people to rep 2 events and play both sides of the fence. i reiterate once again my longlasting and clearly evidenced support of the idj cause... as a promoter i know how fucking hard it is to try to involve everyone within a limited amount of dates and times -it's unfortunate

and lastly, ya... this party will be the fucking illest, most bongingest mafaa ever, so make up your own minds people, but i'd like to see you all there.

i dunno i went to see revolutions last night, i can't agree with the last post.. nor can i really disagree.. since i was pretty much indifferent to matrix 2, due largely to low expectations. the original was in a class of its own, with a story that actually had an interesting twist, while the sequels pretty much suck ass in that sense, and become completely hollywoodified crap. i'm a little tired of this fucking "i can" i don't know " but I believe!" i believe in love" i know i love you" the oracle told me this that and who the fuck cares. none of this shit makes sense any more, which is dissapointing 'cause the 1st matrix on its own made so much sense in a really fucking cool way... so anyways, a mediocre movie in my opinion, just like matrix 2, mad effects and all that shit, a fun ride, with excruciating moments of painfully shitty cheesiness.... dissapointing, but not more so than expected.

ps the great antonio died about 3 weeks ago C.O.K.... unfortunately.. this guy dragged a 48 ton train 30 feet, getting into the Guiness book of world records (those details might be a tiny bit off, but it's crazy fucking shit.. that's like dragging like 50 large cars for half a city block.. how is that possible).. was also schizophrenic, and refused to ever sign a contract, apparently the reason that the Great Antonio died penniless... also he apparently ate 100 chickens in one sitting once

i mean ya, julian and amanda made the point for me, noah.

i'm the last to argue this point really, it's just for fun when it comes to DJ names and shit, but it's also a real fact that many artists use different aliases for different works... Luke Vibert records as Plug, Wagon Christ, Amen Andrews, etc. etc... Carl Craig is BFC, Psyche, Paper Clip People, 69 and Innerzone Orchestra... Juan Atkins is Cybotron, Infinite and Model 500... the reason for this? I dont know varies from case to case I'm sure.. I'm not gonna convince you Noah that's there's any real validity to it, but it DOES happen in the world, and i think ravewave is there in general to deal with realities, not to enforce your personal vision of what rules apply.. obviously.

anyways in my case i just think its fun.. DJing and techno has always been an escape for me, like an alternate reality, where i am this weird little comic book character. so if i can use different names to try to invoke kinda different characters and personalities, it just makes it funner for ME. if it's obvious all those names are the boring human who writes for a magazine, it just kinda takes the fun out of it. anyways.. it's really not a big deal, but nevertheless a pretty interesting topic i think..

ok, I know who Hollywood is.. his exact age is hard to estimate.. sometimes he looks at least 50, sometimes he has the youthful demeanour of a black man in his mid twenties.. Hollywood is ageless... to know him, you just gotta see him, then you will always recognize him.. or just ask.. he will confirm that he is in fact Hollywood, gladly, if you ask him...

warning: Hollywood IS a crack addict and has been in jail numerous times, while he appears to be friendly, it is a good idea to be exercise a reasonable level of restraint around him...

I don't know where he "lives", but he can be spotted mostly around the atwater to peel area, anywhere btwn sherbrooke and rene levesque, i've never seen him on st-laurent for example...

Hollywood loves the inuit bitches. his particular fave, you gives the BEST blowjobs in town, according to him, has one or two nasty yellow teeth remaining in her vomithole of a mouth.

Hollywood IS most definitely the guy with the banana.. this is one of his favourite routines (along with the water gun).. where he tells you to "stick it up, you know the routine" or somethin.. he's got all these wicked lines and rhymes, my buddy is really the authority on this subject, having memorized virtually every line that Hollywood has ever delivered in our presence. He loves to sings also, and can be found serenading party-goers on downtown streets regularly.

anyways, ya, big up to Hollywood

very solid job vince and nick, big props.. all the elements were in order: deco was AMAZING (especially the ZEN room.. that room was 10/10, amazing sound, wicked music and stunning fucking trippy visuals).. the sound was solid, everything was well organized, and first and foremost you guys KILLED IT... the set of the night, without a doubt, dorobo vs clown.. i wasnt too impressed with nuclear ramjet good tracks obviously, but they seemed kinda rusty on a lot of their transitions -beats dropping out and popping in out of nowhere kinda shit...

it's hard to say where and when techno will work, but it's evident that it didn't work at makina, which was really dissapointing i guess... this is obviously the downside of the party (and the fact i guess that not too many people showed up..) i think there can be a lot of speculation about why this happened. number one is of course that the headliner is a psy-trance act, so that notoriously fickle tech-heads, who are used to having beyer, carola, vigorito, christian smith, speedy j or whoever at aria for 30 bucks, will be hard pressed to come out and hear local tech for the same price (the usual story with tech-parties in montreal).. and secondly, the techno was at the beginning of the night, so that for all the psyheads up in there, i think it may have been a bit much -its like they needed something to get them INTO it (nuclear ramjet) before they were ready for some harder beats (clown and geist)... personally i went into this party saying fuck it, i'm gonna play dark, heady pure tek. some of my friends thought my set at cloud was too cheesy, too booty, all that shit (and i totally agree to a certain degree), so makina was an outlet for all my dark, faceless robotic beats ; which, to get a night going, just doesn't work. Having brought tons of records to the party, i decided, about 20 minutes into my set, to thrown in some psytek, thinking that my juice people up.. i did hear some cheers and shit when i threw on a couple of midimiliz tracks, but frankly it didn't get the people dancing either. then i just said fuck it and played the deep, trippy tek set i wanted to play. so in the end, i had fun playing but sorta felt like i was playing for my own appreciation only.

lastly, i think it's obvious that techno can work at small parties, it happened at flux that's for sure.. the many reasons why it did work i guess are too long and confusing to go into right now, and i dont really have a fucking clue anyways... but i went into makina thinking that psytek and techno are so similar that people would appreciate what i was playing, and i've left with the realization that psytek and techno are distinctly different, and that the absence of the progressive element in faceless deep techno keeps psyheads from dancing. or something. so ya, i tried to play a set that bridged the hard tek of freebass and nter with the psytek of n.r., and it didn't seem to pan out for the dancefloor.. anyhoo enough about my personal neuroses, big up to clown and nick it was a pleasure to play for y'all, and don't give up on tek.

ya mr parker, i hear ya!!! it's been years we talk about it and it still hasn't happened, due to laziness and pot-smoking i'm sure on both of our behalfs.. but in due time..

a) it's a one-room event.. i don't have room, obviously, for the ENTIRE IDJ family.. but you'll see for the future you guys'll be dropping tracks at dis shiizzzz.. i won't rest for long before i do somethin' else

b) i had toyed with the idea (actually a friend's suggestion -and a damned hilarious one i might add) with doing a strictly tek night... gonna call it "In Da Techno".. intimate, monthly, you know tha drill.. but i just don't think it would've worked out.. so here we have it: subculture...

c) big props to IDJ obviously...

Well I've never had amalgam or stabba playing at any events that i've thrown, though i have played at parties with both of 'em in the past... and naw and black market, though i've booked 'em before, don't play the same styles of music as anyone in the level 4 crew (though i dabble in some minimal tek stuff once in a while, it doesn't come off quite as funky as the naw-ness)... so what i'm trying to do wih subculture is to get all sorts of different so-called "underground" styles in the same venue, so that people that have an appreciation for one or the other can broaden their horizons a little, and also cause i'm confident that someone who enjoys one things that's 'unconventional' will be more likely to enjoy other styles that are also 'unconventional', or non-mainstream. type shit.
