I dont pay for either unless I go to the theatres or go see a DJ or a musician live. Regarding movies, clearly downloading movies has not had a huge impact on the wages of those in the industry, and thus has had a nominal effect on the industry. Movies I tend to watch are all "blockbusters," and IMO the market pays those involved in those movies more than I think they deserve. Ditto for tv shows. My bet is that its because the movie and tv industry are rather monopolistic in nature, thus they make more than they would in a perfect market economy anyways. It also results in products that overly low in quality (hence the reason for the number of shitty movies). So why should I pay for them? The reason we use the market system is because it supposedly directs resources to their best uses. Its not because it results in people paying fairly (hence the reason for transfers and IMO the taxes for those in the upper brackets are not even close to progressive enough). By downloading movies, Im simply helping along this transfer process, thus, leading to a more equitable distribution of income in our society. Im also helping to encourage the movie industry to produce less shitty movies. Basicly Im doing 2 services to society by downloading movies :P. Muzik is different because none of those involved with most of the edm artists are overpaid for services rendered (some exceptions exist). So by paying for such music, Im using my money to signal to society (via the market) that more resources should be devoted to producing edm. That said I dont pay for muzik cuz wut the fuck would I do with a seven minute hard house track. DJ mixes are free; thats wut I listen to. But I pay to see DJs who buy tracks from music artists, and many djs are themselves music artists who can use the brand value created from producing tracks to command higher prices than their DJ skills would otherwise permit (implicit compensation for producing tracks)- which I pay. |

The main reason every company is doing remake instead of original content is due to poor sales. They'd rather do a sequel or remake (which comes with guaranteed money) than risk an original content and have it stolen. It does affect the market; you just care less about it than you do about music. Still no justification, though. |
