It's not just the oppinion, it's the exposure. In vietnam, if soldiers threw a puppy over a cliff, who would have known about it? In the 1950s, people didn't have easy access to the news of every single city in the world at their fingertips.

It's not that this kind of crazy, fucked up shit is new, it's just that now more people are finding out about it right when it happens.
I'm feeling like cheezing right now..

Right on. In a way, that's what I meant to say.
My mom and me always talk about Global Warming, in the sense of: "Are hurricanes, and floods, etc., increasing, or are we just documenting the events more often?"

I don't want to change the subject, but for example, we've only been taking note of environmental changes (and correct me if I'm wrong) for a 50-some-odd-years. Yes, in the past 50-some-odd-years, there have been major changes. How do we know if extreme environmental conditions haven't already have happened in the past, and that what we are experiencing now isn't part of a larger pattern, greater than our current data?

The point is. The world has always been a shit hole, now, thanks to the net, we know how much a shit hole it really is.
I'm feeling cool right now..

mico, global warming existed way before we even were there,

I'm feeling hardcore right now..

I think that's what he was saying.. It's not like it's a new thing, it's just more televised and has only recently been researched.. but without records of any sort, no one can really know how the weather was diffrent 4000 years ago. So people are making a big deal out of it, because it's new to them, just like it's new to people to see that soldiers throw puppies off of cliffs or throw water bottles that they've put salt in to thirsty afghan/iraqui children. Shit like that happened in vietnam. It happened in WW2. It happened in the Gulf War. It's just that then, they didn't have access to the media technology we have now.

ok, I didn't bother reading the rest of the posts so here I go anyway...
DrNyarlathotep, a few posts back you said we shuld get rid of the weak to evolve geneticaly, but here's some news: we don't NEED to do ANYTHING. Evolution happens regardless of our actions. It culls the population on it's own. Sure, we live longer than we ought to, people with hereditary deseases are breeding when they would have died out if they had lived millions of years ago, but in the end, the selection process is happening beyond on conscious choices. Society as a whole is a product of our genetic evolution and is itself evolving constantly. Why do you think that the wealthy breed less than the poor, for example?
I'm feeling i drink a guru every right now..

Fitness is measured by the ability to survive, attract mate(s), reproduce, and have your offspring survive long enough to reproduce.

So if your a retard in a wheelchair with a terminal illness, but you still somehow manage to get with a girl and have a bunch of kids then guess what, your genes have been selected!

And nobody has any right to say that it was a "mistake" that you had kids, because whatever characteristics you had that allowed you to reproduce are worthy of selection simply by virtue of the fact that you have succeded at reproduction.

Evolution isn't "meant" to make humans smarter, faster, stronger. Theres no guiding force or spirit behind evolution that humans are somehow subverting. Evolution is just what happens when certain genetic mutations contribute to a subset of a species having more reproductive success than others. Theres no such thing as "right" or "wrong" evolution.

lol! I love dnd jokes.

You can easily make one on your own. Fuck, even me and a couple friends made one, and then sprayed a stencil of Dick Cheney on it to lower the moral of those who laid eyes upon the glorious bringer of death. All you need is some cheap-ass foam, a sawed off broom stick, and duct tape.

That or you can buy one at this medieval shop on the Plateau for like, $120.
