using math to create art != math

Example:
using a blow torch to make a car != blowtorch

math = math

Well you just proved my point then... You don't do math for the sake of math, programming isn't math for the sake of math (unless you are a mathematician and are just trying to solve problems like finding primes or whatever)... Programming is USING math.

no, programming IS math.
j = (q * tr) / 45;

math.

Wow, you guys really know how to go on tangents.

It's really funny -even though everyone has been saying the same thing- about how they can judge art, not being art because it wasn't made by a 4-year old named Nicholas. But I clicked "Art" for all of them, and I only got two right... Even though they all seemed to have held artistic value to them. Especially the glass flutes that were aranged in the vase, that were bought from the salvation army. Okay! Just because you bought them from the salvation army and only cost $1.49, doesn't mean that they can't be used to create art!

Looks like an interesting report none the less.

I know someone who's tried different styles and is now into "abstract art". This person can draw a landscaping or a person like no other. She's awesome...but she likes abstract. Taking something (someone, an idea a concept) and expressing it in its most basic structure.

But I'm not an artist myself...and I used to think like you. But after I saw what she can do...I now believe there not ALL painters that can't paint and thus fell back on abstract art but some of them are actually talented in their work...we just can't see it. She does though.

Some abstract art, even though it looks like paint thrown onto a canvas, can look really good. For the most part though, I think it's a bunch of bullshit.

Saying shit like "Well, you wouldn't get it, but it's really deep and full of meaning." is so fucking pretentious it makes me want to vomit.

If you want people to take your "art" seriously, then don't try and "subliminaly" insult them when they "don't get it" just so that you can feel good about yourself for being such a "superior" being that you can get "in tune" with your inner nature and "express it" for a quick buck.

Art does not exist in the object.

It exists in the relationship between the object and the perceiver of the object.

Do you think an insect crawling through an art museum sees any art?

i'm not even going to start on this discussion.

i'm just going to post here and say that some art, in particular abstract art, isnt concerned with whether or not a four year old painted it, but with the sentiment put behind it.

hence, daubbles and splatter and streaks and one little dot in the very corner of the canvas.

Or a red circle as we've seen.

Cool. I'm gonna take some E and some ex-lax. I'll bet that my log will be a hell of a lot more artistic than that kid's fingerpainting 'cause it'll have WAY more emotion put into it!

awesome, maybe in eighty years when you're dead and the fossilized poop is on display at the met someone'll come around and rehash your argument for you.

though i think someone may have already done that...

i think this quiz is silly. it oversimplifies the question of "What is art". I am of the dada belief that art is a question of context. Art can be made of anything, as long as it is placed in a certain context. Art is supposed to provoke an emotional response. judging from the many "oh this is crap, i could have done that" responses i've read, then most of it was art for it provoked you ;)
