Now we work out the payout. If we flip 100x I win 250$ you win 50$. Again according to the LLN I will be very profitable at no risk and the chances are slim that I loose when taking this bet.

Poker is the same - if I have a hand that is 80% chance to your 20% (like AAo over KKo approx) and we put both our money in the pot (most likely) The pot is 400$ at 1/2 say. Over 100 hands like this...I take 32,000....you take 8,000.

There is no "uncertain outcome" or gamble here according to the LLN or the Theory of Probability.

The trick to poker is making sure you always have the best of it. That takes skill.

AA vs KK is a dream scenario. You only get AA once every 240 hands and you're only winning 4 out 5 times from that. Those are the best scenarios however, and often things go wrong, such as, you don't get all your money in preflop, and instead have to navigate a possibly dangerous board, sometimes you need to throw it away (lost money) or you don't and you get beat by a stronger hand (lost money), or you get multiple opponents instead of just one.

When you play poker a lot, you hit a lot of dry patches where you get garbage cards for hours and hours, causing you to grind away bluffing with terrible hands in order to keep your image up of being a loose player (so you can get paid when you finally do get a hand).

What really happens in poker is simple, you see a flop, you made top pair with an ok kicker and you bet. If someone calls, you cannot be in any way certain as to what he called with, you can make an educated guess, but you still have no idea what that person called with; that's why it's gambling, cause you don't know what the outcome will be, and yet you're wagering money on the cards you have.
I'm feeling pompous right now..

I mostly play on line. A huge part of my game is Bank Roll Management. The next thing I factor into my play is table selection (I consider this playing poker even before a penny hits the table) which is a huge aspect of my game. I look for a whole range of conditions that I know I have an edge on. I look for maniacs, I look for % of player to the flop, I look for stack sizes, I look for position (hopefully I can sit to the left of the money) I look for tight tables....tons and tons of stuff. I then sit back and watch. After about 2-3 orbits and considering all my table selection criteria, I might have a good read of the table. I then look at bet sizes and betting patterns. I look at cards that are turned over at show down and decipher people's starting range. I haven't made a bet or a play yet...but I'm still playing poker. If I feel there are no fish or the table is less than profitable I get up and leave. If I find something yummy I stay.

Then I start the pounding. If a villain is weak I 3 and four bet constantly. If someone comebacks at me after folding continuously and they're playing like a ROCK I can get away from the hand. If I have position on a maniac...I'm in heaven because I can set up my strategy to play monsters and check and call his chips to me.

The big thing I need to work on is discipline (players with discipline have a huge edge at the table) The other night I was on the button with Ah 9h...folded to me and I bet 4xBB...SB folds, and BB calls. As soon as that happen I thought it was weird...some kinda bell went off because this guy was playing very tight and passive. flop came A 9 4 rainbow. he checked...I went with my PF read and thought he had a big pair and if I bet he might call (I wanted a call)...then he reraised me. I started thinking it smelt like AK so I three bet...back to him and he shoved his stack in. Right at that point I knew with a ounce of doubt he had trips. I had A 9 so most likely 44. Being the donk that I am I called and he showed the 44. I could have saved 3/4 of my stack had I gone with all the screaming tells. Each bet I made gave me information on the hand. I don't even consider those wagers, I think of them as probe bets. Poor discipline (or stupidity) got the best of me...NOT GAMBLING.

Common THE.NEOFORM
- you must get this having won 11K...like players are playing their cards face up because they are so bad or because you are playing your A game?
I'm feeling 93-97 right now..

Dude, first of all speak english

Second of all this poker terminology you learned online in your cabin during your "leave of abscence" isn't impressing anyone

OK - Hamish. I'll bite. Since you are such a nice guy...and obviously concerned with my well being. I'll give you the thread to talk about yourself. SO what did you accomplish in the last year? Anything out of your profession? Did you study anything significant that you would now be confident discussing with us? Did you travel? Did you do any volunteering for a worthy cause? Did you buy a house or property you would like to talk about? How about get engaged or married? Did you do your taxes and get a nice return? I'm so waiting for all your lovely stories.

You ARE the fail police in this case mr God Emperor.

And the best poker player... there are MANY excellent pros, my favorites are Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen. I especially like Gus cuz he's completely wild and will never play a game the same way, it's always a new character thats at the table.
I'm feeling <( ^_^ )> right now..

i dont know why but i love Phil Hellmuth! yeah he acts like a fucking baby at the table telling people to stop fucking playing like idiot and winning against him and everything hehe but bracelets dont lies :D

but yeah guys like Phil Ivey are way more respectable in the way they conduct themselves!
i love Phil LAak (unibomber) also because hes a degenerate gambler!(doesnt mean poker is gambling :P, but you can play poker like it is)

Chris Ferguson made a lil project on the internet! he started with 0$ and went on playing FREEROLLS everyday and accumulate a little bit of money to play cash game or higher tournament ! well he went from nothing to 10 000 in less than a year ...

heres the report : [ www.fulltiltpoker.com ]

please feel free to post your favorite poker links mine are :

[ thepokerbay.org ] (is down but should be back anytime )

[ www.bestpokertorrents.com ] <--- fully working plz share

et en terminant voici un extrait dun texte qui defend que le poker n est pas un jeu de hasard :

... to those who still maintain that poker is somehow akin to gambling, I wish to ask one question: If you require heart bypass surgery, would you rather go to a heart surgeon, or a plumber? Both have skills in setting pipes and managing fluid flows. But which would be better for you in this situation? Well, that is the same as in poker. Some players are skilled in poker, and therefore their plays are designed to apply that skill to that specific circumstance. Therefore, they aren't gambling. Your heart surgeon is also skilled in those specific situations, and consequently is also not gambling when performing your hear bypass. But the plumber trying to do this would be gambling, and gambling with your life. Similarly, if you need a plumber to fix a leak in your kitchen sink, you wouldn't call your heart surgeon.

ok not sure it really explains everything but it made me laught ehaheah
