REVISION SOUGHT OF DRIVER'S LICENSE LAW

Anyone caught with controlled dangerous substances could lose their
driver's license for up to 10 years if a bill amended Wednesday by
Oklahoma's House of Representatives becomes law. House members unanimously
passed a committee substitute for Senate Bill 1664 by Sen. Carol Martin, R-
Comanche, and Rep. Thad Balkman, R-Norman, after adopting the driver's
license amendment offered by Rep. Clay Pope, D-Loyal.

Pope amended the bill, which originally dealt with a requirement to
annually audit funds related to seizures and property forfeitures, at the
request of police within his district, he said.

He said the amendment's intent is to target people manufacturing, selling
and using methamphetamine, although it could apply to anyone caught with
drugs outlawed by the act.
