ACLU SEEKS LIMIT ON URINE TESTING

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Thursday aimed at
stopping state-ordered urine testing of workers in the greyhound racing
industry.

Colorado adopted the urine testing requirement last year. The ACLU wants a
Denver judge to stop the tests and declare them unconstitutional.

The ACLU filed the lawsuit on behalf of Cynthia and Gary Timm of Colorado
Springs, who were ordered to submit to the random urine tests last year.
The Timms have been licensed since 1997 to train greyhounds at kennels at
Colorado racetracks.

Cynthia Timm refused to provide a urine sample and lost her state license.
Gary Timm submitted a sample under duress because he couldn't afford to
lose his license and his livelihood, the ACLU said.

"Random urine testing unfairly treats innocent workers like criminals,"
Mark Silverstein, ACLU legal director, said Thursday. "It is a degrading
and unnecessary invasion of personal privacy."
