SUSPECT GOT DRUGS FROM MARIJUANA CLUB

MILLBRAE, Calif. -- A homeless man was jailed on suspicion of supplying
high school students with pot he obtained from a medical marijuana club in
San Francisco.

Shawn Simon, 23, was arrested this week near Mills High School. Students
told police he had supplied them with morphine tablets, whiskey, and
marijuana for the past six weeks.

"The disturbing thing was he would brag to these kids that he had access to
marijuana because he was a member of the cannabis club," Capt. Mike Grogan
said.

Grogan said Simon was carrying an official card identifying him as eligible
to obtain medical marijuana. Simon most recently lived in San Francisco,
where he was on disability for a hip injury, authorities said.

With $25 and a doctor's note, sick people can get a San Francisco ID card
issued by the city entitling them to obtain medicinal marijuana.
Californians voted to approve medical marijuana in 1996.

It was not immediately known whether Simon had a lawyer.
