i don't personally mind paying for music, IF its resonable.
and $15 for a record is madness.
$20 for a CD is just as bad.

Apple's music store doesn't make any revenue for apple since the labels gobble it all up, apple does all the advertisement/distribution, yet for some reason the labels get 80% of the sale.. makes you wonder..

mp3's are a good thing. if it wasn't for mp3s, i wouldn't have gone to see many of the shows/performances that i went to. plus most musicians make most of their money from touring anyway. 15$ for a vinyl or 20-30$ for a cd is way toooo much. i only buy cd's or vinyl when they're second hand.

thers few things people dont understand about tha buznizle here . Lot of artist actualy PAY to release on vinil adn barely hope to just get there investment back . If the records are often so expensive its in part cause of not enough people buy instead of riping it. And the companies does not make much money ( if they do. Were not talking about the 'major' like sony,or whatever) . You seems to think that the records are manufacture in the house of the label and directly sent to shop. But it can pass in the hand of few distributor and manufacture before geting in the shop and each of those take a litle part for there work.

Using MP3s is virtually my only option when it comes to getting music.

Why would i pay $15 for a record i'm only gonna use once to rip?

I sure can't get the same remixes on CD that you can get on vinyl.. not only that but the selection available on Soulseek beats the SHIT out of any local record store.

Virtually everything you find at a record store (new presses, not old stuff) is gonna end up being very mainstream presses that every other DJ has and plays over and over.

Getting my tracks illegally as you say, is pretty much my only option.

The amusing sidenote about the $1-per-song music downloads is that I've heard rumours that the artists aren't actually getting anything out of the deal. The $1 apparently covers the set-up costs for the operation and the labels (who probably are taking in some cash on the deal) are looking at it as promo. However, I think it's a step in the right direction.

For those interested in reading a good article about what musicians (not superstars) can expect - here's a link to Steve Albini's timeless words... some of your friends may already be this fucked:

80c goes to the labels, 20c goes to apple, most of which goes to cover their operational costs..

Error-ize - that makes you halfway to being a producer. Shit... when I'm playing records I'm usually trying to approach things more from the idea of mixing/remixing than doing the 'just play a track' thing... and the feedback I've gotten from producers has been really good.

I've often told producers that I may own the record, but it's still their track - and if I'm playing their track and they don't like what they hear that they're welcome to come up and tell me to stop.

That's only happened once. Stunt Rock objected in Pittsburgh, but later said he only did it to see if I'd actually take his records off... I did... We did a collaborative set later on that night.

I do it to add a little unf to some of the tracks that need it. It has nothing todo with trying to make it easier to mix. btw i've been producing since 2000

mp3s of vinyl rips ussually, if not always, seriously blow in audio quality...

You have a recording from an analog source encoded in lossy compression... You get noise from the decks in the mp3, and if the vinyl is old you probably have scratches and a fucked high end too... Vinyl rips might be a good way to preview tracks but any DJ serious about quality wouldn't use them....

who ever said i'm trying to get somewhere in the scene? I'll be the first to admit i don't play at many parties..

I never got into DJing so i could play out and be the 'cool' dj that everyone wants.. i make mixes so i can listen to em, since the time that i started mixing i found that other people were interested in hearing my mixes, so i made em available.. the end..

I really don't see what you are trying to do by insulting my site, my choice of music or intelligence.. really, what are you trying to prove? no one's gonna start hating me cause you don't like my choises, and i'm sure not going to change my way of getting music due to your VERY convincing arguments "you coward sucker"..

seriously, explain to me what makes me a coward.. ?

keep in mind the definition of the word:

"One who shows ignoble fear in the face of danger or pain."

Where was the thead of danger? and when did i run for cover?
