No one seems to have a problem with this in their own theology:

"Who created the universe?"
"God"
"Who created God?"
"No one."
"So if God just is, couldn't the universe just be?"
"No, that's silly."

if god doesn't exist, prove it. If god exists? Prove it. Can't do either? Oh well tough shit.

I used to believe this for a long time. Then something hit me...

People can't prove god doesn't exist, its impossible no matter how hard you try.

Why? You can't prove something's non-existance. The only way to do that is to awknowledge that it has existed and for whatever reason, doesn't anymore.

But if something has never existed at all, there is no way of proving that.

i think there is a definite need for faith and hope in our lives. It gives us a drive...that all this "hell" will be met with a type of heaven in the future...not per say the typical christian heaven...but something more than this. and well God fills that hole.

Doesn't really matter, the majority of human beings out there need or want something to beleive in. Things like a god. They all want to be happy once they die, like heaven or hell. Maybe it was just invented, the theory of a god, maybe there is a god. Who cares live your life!!

Let's face it: humans have only a limited range of perception. Just as there is only a certain range of sound frequencies that the human ear is capable of receiving, there is only a limited amount of the exterior (and interior) reality that the human conscience is able to perceive. Unconsciously, however, we KNOW that there is an Other that exists beyond our perception. We KNOW that what we perceive is not the whole picture. Religions are just a futile attempt to give some form to that Other.

it's not a matter of proving that something DOESN'T exist, it's provind that it does.

if there is no evidence to believe god exists, why believe he does? (haha jeff, i said "he")

in order to be an atheist, you must be able to prove that god DOESN'T exist

otherwise you are an agnostic

youre right...
you cant prove he DOES exist...
thats not the way to prove things anyway...
who ever tries to prove something DOESNT exist? it just doesnt make sense to do taht...
thats where faith comes into play...
human DO have very limited perceptions... we cannot perceive most of the world, and as much as we make convince ourselves that we know all tehre is to know, or that we WILL know all there is to know.. we wont... there are things we will never see...
now, its up to you to beleive that God exists or not, he DID after all give us Free Will... we are free to choose what we will

ummmmm NO.

you can't prove that there is life anywhere else in the universe. but does the fact that you can't prove that life exists anywhere else prove that there ISN'T extraterrestrial life? of course not, all it means is that if there IS other life it hasn't yet been discovered.

just because there may or may not be realms that we can't perceive doesn't prove that those realms don't exist, we just don't have the biological capability to describe them

sure you can, hop in a spaceship and go find some, odds are there is other life in the universe, the best way to find out is go look. This is something very easy to prove (in theory, as actually travelling the entire universe is quite difficult)

here's my analogy:

Let's say a bunch of people have been stranded on an island for generations, and can only see ocean around them. One day, someone claims to have seen a vision of another land: a land of singing bannanas and flurosecent monkeys, ruled by a benevolent unicorn. A bunch of people agree, and call themselves Florks, worshipping the unicorn.

Sometime later, someone else comes along and claims that, in fact, the other land consists of dancing elves doing headstands and twirling in circles. A bunch of Florks are so convinced that this new vision is correct that they convert and become the new religion, the Henoes.

All young children either grow up in Flork or Henoe communities, so every child is taught all about what this other land must be like, and that the other people must be pretty ignorant to beleive their respective religions. One day, some Florks and Henoes become disillutioned and say, "You can't prove that singing bannas exist! You can't prove that dancing elves exist! And since when I look all around me all I see is water, this Island is all that exists! There is no other land!"

Well u know what? ALL OF THEM ARE WRONG!

the only reasonable responce is: just because i can't perceive any other piece of land doesn't mean that another land doesn't exist, but since I can't perceive it, its FUTILE to guess what this land could be unless i can see it myself!

you aren't PROVING that other life exists, your just SPECULATING that some other life probably does exist, we just haven't found it yet.

which is exactly the way people SPECULATE that some kind of "other power" exists
