altho it's only free until its in beta stage
check this:

and to know exactly what it does (from a quick 2mins of testing that ive done hehe):

Protection Plus:
Antivirus, Firewall and Automatic Updates (we've got firewall in xpsp2 already, i dont know if it uses that or has its own)

Performance plus (heres what it does):
remove unnecessary files from your computer (wich is Disc Cleanup)
defragment your hard disks (wich is Disk Defragmenter)
check your computer for viruses (this is actually windows onecare live NEW!)
check your computer for files needing backup (who uses that?)
check for missing updates from microsoft (wich is windows update)

Backup and Restore:
backup your files (wich is System Tools > Backup)

so nothing new, except for the antivirus thing

Microsoft's new money making strategy:

Make a costly operating system that has a billion security holes in it
Release firewall, spyware and antivirus apps that kinda patch up the problems in it and charge lots of money for it.

Any bets they'll do some bullshit like force you to pay yearly fees for their anti virus definitions?

Like norton do...

I never get virus, spy or any shit. I use my router firewall and its enought. And I never had any anti-virus.
I can keep my box clean without any super-cleaning-performance-software.

Router firewalls are good.

The problem is when you install an app and you're not sure what it does.
I have a software firewall that notifies me every time an app tries to access the net. This is particularly usefull when you believe a given app shouldn't be using the internet. I catch installs veeery often trying to call home when they shouldn't be.

Also *all* spyware calls home, this helps you catch spyware even better than a anti-spyware app..

Did not format my computer since 6 month.

And I never had any virus. Keeping your computer clean is not that hard...
I check what I download, scan my port for trojan, etc.
Many option are diable in my browser, wich request a authorisation.
Keep your OS up to date with the patch.

For me the solution of a virus is not a anti-virus.
This is what i use :
format c:/u .

But I can understand not everyone like to format is computer only for 1 virus. But I think thoses all-in-one-super-protect-pack, are useless. Much more if they are from microsoft.

Symantec already make good firewall and anti-virus appz.

And i've use blackice without any anti-virus for 4 years. I NEVER had any virus with this firewall.

And windows XP/2003 Server already have their built-in firewall.

I'm sooooo expecting OneCare to actually start caring if you have a pirated version of Windows or not ( seeing as how it monitors so much of your Windows-run stuff ) and either stop OneCare from " caring " anymore or lock you out of your pirated Windows version. And if that happens, remember YOU downloaded the software and YOU installed it and YOU didn't read the Service Agreement like 99.999% of users out there...you won't be able to get back at Microsoft for that. Trust me, THEIR lawyers will beat your lawyer blindfolded.

This is just hypothetical but hey, what if it turns out to be true ?

i havent read most of the posts so it might have been said already

Windows One Care = Counter Spy + a delay of updates that makes it stupid not to get counter spy instead.
