ok now we're not even talking about the strike anymore
the point is i dont want to lose my semester cuz they dont want to get a job
you do what you gotta do? so should they!
if you dont complain, why should they?
how many people rely on bursaries to the point where they would DIE if theyd get a job? like what a handful of people?
i (and by that i mean everyone else who DOESNT get a loan 99% of people maybe?) shouldnt be forced to lose a year for them

I don't think you're going to lose anything really... Concordia will never go on an unlimited strike. Cegeps and universities should only close down the school if a majority of students voted for the strike. I don't think some should pay for the indifference of others, and I don't see why some people don't vote. I think they're the ones who are lazy.

A handful ? I don't think Montrealers are that rich. The bursaries definitaly needs to go into the right hands, otherwise it's a waste.

Incompetence brings trouble. The Liberal Party is a great example of it. They were promised a lot, and instead they cut 103 millions. I think there would be less strikes and social conflicts if politicans were honnest. Around 70 000 university students used the program in 2002. There is a need for it, especially in rural areas where gaining money is harder than in Montreal. There is a lot of immigration from Saguenay, Abitibi, Gaspesie...but we need people there, we need our natural ressources. Bursaries are needed for those people, and for the lower urban classes.

Well, it's good to see that there so many involved and informed people on this site to debate the situation going around the Student strikes.

Though this whole situation doesn't affect me (because i'm not going to school at the moment) I would have to agree with a lot of what RandomJunkie has to say, and the Universities and CEGEPs (along with their students) need to stand up for themselves and get what they need in order to gain a good education.

All I can say is that it's a shame that a govt' who has promised not to remove funding from the education system has done exactly that. Now resulting in the possibility of many students not going to school because of the strike, plus the lack of money that would normally have been provided for students to do so.

There a good reasons on both sides of this battle field. Point is, don't vote for lying Liberals
=P

If any of you arent happy with Quebec's socialist and egalitarian mindset, i welcome you to leave right now. This is by far the best place to live in all of the americas. Not all humans are born with equal intellience, mental and physical health and so on. We have set up wicked safety nets in this country to make sure that everyone has a chance to make it. Of course some will take advantage, but personally i think its all worth it in the end. This country rejects social- darwinism and makes sure that its not strictly the fittest that can survive. It is a spectacular feat, one which i am proud of. Of course life may be unfair, but thats not a reason to try and make it more fair.

Anyone (such as neoform) who tells you that the future cant be better, that life is not fair and get used to it is nothing but a lethargic devil.

Dinosaur, do you really think you can live for a whole year with 7500$+gifts?
Maybe if you live in a little crappy 1½ and eating kraft dinner every night, yes. There's time for scrafice, there's time for life. You choose.

I never needed to take loan and have any bursarie while I was studying. I worked quite hard during 4 years while studying.
But I do understand people that need them and people that don't want to have a debt of 20 000 the first day they finish school.

Being selfish is only to think about his own semester, because, first, you won't lose it, it might just be retarded from few weeks, and second, if students are united in this conflict, results will appears quite faster.

My sister graduated last may, her debts school loan's totalled more than $45,000 (McGill Med Student), she plans on paying back every penny.

I can say right now, she worked *damn* hard to get that diploma, and now she's gonna work for the next 10 years to pay those loans off.

if want things to be *fair* then everyone should have to undergo the same workload.

but like i said, things aren't fair, so why are we striving for some impossible world of "everyone's equal, let's let everyone do what they want for free" bit?

...Why don't we all just give up, and let the government do what they want.

Im really impartial to this situation, but it doesn't mean that there aren't negative after-effects to these cut backs.

"There's no such thing as a free lunch."
So why are all these kids getting a free all you can eat buffet all day?
and no, I dont think I could live off 7500$ a year, but what I said was taht i managed that ONLY working the summer
i could easily get a weekend job... when i want extra cash i find work
fuck it.. im tired of arguing this whole thing...
i COMPLETELY disagree with the strike.

blah blah blah equality blah blah blah... yeah? wheres the equality in me getting fucked in the ass because a FEW people are pissed off that the government wont be giving them free shit?

fuck it...
look, yeah, sure, i agree... bursaries are great... if you getting a bursary or need one or whatever thats fine... but theyre a PRIVILIDGE not a RIGHT... if you want to fight for your bursary how does it involve me?
why do i have to get fucked

give bursaries out all you want... just dont screw me over... it doesnt involve me

Ofcourse. Unfortunately, we are stuck with a Government, at the moment, who isn't doing what ,obviously, many (selfish, lazy or whatever other labels you can throw at them) Quebecers want.

The idea of Democracy is to be able to chose what you want.
If what we as a democracy want are bursaries and not loans, then we have the right to protest for it.

If only we were allowed to do what the did in France to Marie Antoinette ---"Off with her Head!"
