SPEEDING PILOTS

I was taken aback when it was revealed on Peter Jennings' newscast
that Air Force pilots are given amphetamines to bolster them while on
missions in Afganistan and Iraq.

This is an abomination.

It contradicts all the precepts of our nation's war against
drugs.

It is a sad commentary when our fighting men need drugs to help them
do their job.

Are we to be dependent on junkies to fight our battles?

The fighter and bomber pilots in World War II that went through hell
to be victorious depended on shear guts and bravery to bring our
nation to ultimate victory.

I am saddend as an Air Force veteran that it has come down to hyping
our pilots to do their jobs.
