CAMPUS OFFERS ALCOHOL AND DRUG COURSES

The University of North Carolina at Wilmington's Division for Public
Service and Continuing Studies, in partnership with the N.C. Foundation for
Alcohol and Drug Studies, will host the 26th annual North Carolina School
for Alcohol and Drug Studies Aug. 4-8 on the university campus.

The school, which offers continuing education units as well as professional
development credit for substance abuse professionals, teachers and national
certified counselors, features concurrent track sessions, mini-track
sessions and an awards banquet.

Participants will reside on campus, in local hotels or commute. The opening
session, scheduled 2-3 p.m. Aug. 4, will feature Marianne Frederick, a
professional speaker, interactive trainer and "WorkPlay" coach.

Gary Dean, vice president of programming and producer/co-host of a morning
television show based in New Bern, will address participants at the awards
banquet, scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Aug. 6.

Track sessions include Spirituality in Recovery; Journey Not Destination;
Best Practices for Target Populations; Understanding Chronic Addiction;
Identifying and Treating Crucial Core Developmental Issues; Sociotherapy
for Sociopaths; and See the Forest, Hear the Trees: The Skill of Deep
Listening and Powerful Questions.

Mini-tracks include Integrating Spirituality into Therapy; Current Legal
and Ethical Issues for Managers and Supervisors; Adolescents; Substance
Abuse and Violence; HIV/AIDS; Paying Attention to Your Inner Village Idiot;
and Substance Abuse Trends for North Carolina.
