VARILLA VOWS ON ACTION V. COPS IN ILLEGAL DRUGS

POLICE Regional Director PCHF Supt. Reynaldo Varilla on Monday said the
Philippine National Police will come up with measures to address the use of
illegal drugs by policemen.

Six policemen in Region 9 have been found out to be drug users.

Four from the Zamboanga City Police Office, one from Zamboanga del Norte
and one from Sibuguey.

From the Zamboanga City Police Office on the first batch one was found
positive on the screen test and the confirmatory test.

In the second batch, three were found positive also on the screen and
confirmatory test although one policeman did not appear for the final test.

The mentioned drug test was conducted at the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory the
policemen if tested positive on the screen test they will be tested again.

"In this way we are starting to cleaning our ranks to see to it that nobody
in the police is involved in drug activities." Varilla said.

Regarding rehabilitation Varilla said they can rehabilitated however they
will still face the administrative charges.

Varilla said for those policemen tested positive they will be given due
process.
