COMMUNITY ACTION NEEDED TO COMBAT 'ICE' PLAGUE

In the two years I have lived on Maui,. I have never seen or heard so much
about "ice." I, along with so many others, know that the "ice" problem in the
Hawaiian Islands is only getting worse.

The Maui Police Department, on the other hand, has other priorities, like
getting people off the road who don't have car insurance or up-to-date safety
checks and registrations and telling kids not to hang around "no soliciting"
areas. It seems that the MPD isn't trying very hard or maybe they need to
re-evaluate its approaches.

Why aren't these attempts to help aimed more toward all the probably hundreds
of meth labs in the islands? We need to get the community involved. We need to
educate these innocent children about this.

"Ice" is pretty easy to get here, so why is the problem getting worse and worse
and bigger than ever? I don't see how or why any authorities can't get rid of
it and the people behind the making of it.

How can we, as a community, be of help with this problem. Does anyone have any
suggestions? This almost makes me want to become an activist, but I don't know
how to start. Any suggestions? Please feel free to e-mail me at (address
deleted) with comments, suggestions, etc.
