CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER K2 BAN

MINERAL WELLS - Mineral Wells City Council on Tuesday will decide
whether to follow the lead of other North Texas cities, and cities
across the state and nation banning the K2, marketed and sold as
incense but popular as a synthetic form of marijuana.

Available in different forms, synthetic marijuana is a combination of
different ingredients. Cities including Dallas, Frisco, Allen,
Mansfield and Watagua have deemed the substance dangerous.

There are reports of people requiring medical treatment after smoking
K2 or synthetic marijuana.

At present, the substances are not banned by the federal government,
but are being tested. State Sen. Florence Shapiro and State Rep. Ken
Paxton have said they'll seek a statewide ban.

In Dallas, sale and use of the substance can result in a $2,000
fine.

Mineral Wells City Council is scheduled to meet in regular session at
6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the City Hall Annex, 115 S.W. 1st St., to
