DRUG TRADE PERIL

Brittney Lee Irving was an alleged drug trafficker killed while
trafficking drugs. I'm saddened at the loss of life and know of her
family's remorse. But are we not glorifying her death and actions in
life by putting her on the front page?

It is heartbreaking to read of Irving's OxyContin addiction and of
the supposed cry for help by making this her "last run" before
entering rehab. But coming from a family that has had its share of
drug addicts, I can tell you that until someone actually enters the
rehab building it's never their intent to go. This "last run" was
obviously an effort to gain some quick money to support her habit.

Let's extend our pity to the countless senseless deaths that occur
across our province and lament Brittney Lee Irving's demise as an
avoidable tragedy.

This is yet another reason why no one should involve themselves with
the drug trade.
