Fiftythree per cent of drivers killed on Victorian roads last year showed
the presence of alcohol or other drugs, including marijuana. The presence
of drugs other than alcohol mainly cannabis has been rising
dramatically in recent years, according to Victoria's parliamentary road
safety committee chairman, John Richardson. He said 38 per cent of drivers
killed last year showed a presence of drugs other than alcohol, compared
with 20 per cent in 1993. Mr Richardson was quoting studies by the
Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.
