Youths caught taking drugs

Teenagers in Mulbarton have been given a stern warning by police after
youths were discovered using the common as a hideaway for drug taking.

Police swooped on the common after a call from a member of the public who
had seen teenagers acting suspiciously in a thicket. Two youngsters aged 16
and 14 were arrested and later cautioned for possession of cannabis.

A further four 14yearolds were cautioned. The parents of the six all
received leters informing them.

Sgt. Andy Fiddement said the letters would have encouraged them to take
appropriate action with their children.

"I should think they were horrified when they found out what their children
had been up to.

"We do not believe that Mulbarton has a bigger drug problem than many other
areas."

Robert Preston, chairman of Mulbarton Parish Council, said he was
disappointed by the incident.

"As a parent of a 16yearold I think it is agreat shame that drugs very
often muck up a young person's early life. Good parenting and policing in
mulbarton needs to be done," he said.
