TV SHOWS CAN WORK AGAINST DRUG USE Re: TV heads decry anti-drug effort, Jan. 15. Because drug use has destroyed so many lives and is the main factor in horrible crimes being committed and because the characters depicted in television sit-coms have such an impact on the lives of the viewers (especially the young), I would think that the producers of such shows would welcome the opportunity to have a positive influence on society by producing programs that show the terrible reality of the downside of drug use. I believe such programs would have more positive results in reducing drug use than an ad, and therefore those who agree to producing that type of show should be rewarded. Perhaps if TV sit-coms would promote respect in love relationships rather than illicit sex there would be fewer illegitimate pregnancies and family breakups. Betty J. Perks Port Richey
