MAN IS DEAD AFTER TRIP TO BUY POT, POLICE SAY

A young man from Arnold was shot to death when a trip from Jefferson County
into a St. Louis neighborhood to purchase $20 worth of marijuana turned
deadly Saturday night, St. Louis homicide detectives said.

Jason Laboube, 19, of Arnold was fatally shot in the left side about 10:15
p.m. in the 3400 block of Wisconsin Avenue, police said. Laboube was one of
four people who drove to the 2100 block of Potomac Street looking for
marijuana, police said.

They asked a young man on a bike, and he told them to park and wait.
Moments later, the man on the bike and three other young men approached the
car. Laboube gave one of the four $20, but the four left without giving him
any marijuana.

Laboube and a friend, Matthew Adams, 17, of Imperial, chased the four.
During the pursuit, Laboube was struck in the head with a beer bottle.
Adams then heard gunfire and ran back toward his car.

Laboube collapsed in the 2100 block of Potomac. Adams had a bullet graze
wound of the right arm but refused medical attention.
