Proposition 36 requires probation and a drug treatment program for those
convicted of possession. This makes good sense to us. An obscene number of
inmates are being incarcerated for drug possession, not violent crimes. This
is a waste of our tax dollars. But this initiative does not let those who
peddle drugs off the hook. We are voting yes.
