IRVING POLICE SHOOT SUSPECT WHILE SERVING WARRANT

Man Dies After Being Transported To Hospital

Irving police officers shot an armed suspect while serving a felony search
warrant on Wednesday night. The suspect, identified only as a black male in
his 40s, was transported to Parkland hospital, where he died.

Officers served the warrant for cocaine possession around 8 p.m. at the
Skyway Inn, 110 Highway 183. They were confronted by the suspect after they
identified themselves and alerted the room occupants, according to a media
release.

Police said the suspect refused to put down his pistol and was fired upon
after he pointed it at the officers. The man's name is not being released,
pending verification of his identity and notification of family members.

Two women in their 20s were also in the room, police said. An unspecified
amount of cocaine also was recovered.

The women were taken into custody for questioning and an investigation was
ongoing this morning.
