ABSTINENCE WEEK TAKES CENTER STAGE
MONTGOMERY -- Understanding that the young audience didn't want to be
lectured about abstinence at Saturday's Jammin' for Jesus party, STEP
spread its message through Christian rapper J. Black.
"Drumlines, basketball, we use any kind of bait we can to get you to
listen," Theron Forshee, an abstinence coach of Strategies To Elevate
People, told the crowd. "We want to take away some of the risk in your lives."
Forshee read a proclamation from Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright declaring
Aug. 11-18 Abstinence Awareness Week.
Abstinence means staying away from sexual activity, drugs, alcohol and
violence, Forshee said.
