Don't miss this epic set!!!! ♥ w/ bday boy HARMSWORTH!!!!!! & your residents: VILIFY & CONSTRUCT [ www.wickedbad.net ] $5 ALL NIGHT $3 BEER SPECIAL ALL NIGHT ____________________________________________________________ DUBCONSCIOUS [Toronto/Nelson BC - Dubslingers, Illegal_Sound] *LISTEN: Dubconscious - Real Love - Shamabala 2010 Promo Mix [ soundcloud.com ] For his second Montreal appearance, dj Dubconscious will be passing through in the midst of his post-Shambhala cross-country tour. His triumphant sunrise set on the Beach Stage this August is shelved neatly alongside his sunrise sets at Harvest Festival in Ontario last fall, and the Starbelly music festival in the Kootenays featuring Blackalicious earlier this summer. Cleverly mashing up original roots reggae vibes with heavy basslines, turntablism & funky bashment energy, his morning sets have become a staple for festival-goers. He hasn't forgotten how to rock a clubnight though, so pass through for your fix of new dubs and classics mixed flawlessly.. Background: This young selector came up playing for the Illegal Sound Crew on the west coast of Canada – playing his first gigs in Victoria & Vancouver he dug his teeth into the emerging renaissance of ragga jungle that was gaining momentum across North America. Eventually branching out into all forms of drum and bass, Dubconscious found himself appearing alongside the likes of Shy FX & Skibadee, B Traits & Krinjah – just to name a few. He was also involved in throwing several successful events on Vancouver Island, including shows with Spor & Noisia. By the time he made the move back to the Toronto area in 2007 his selection had expanded further, and he fully immersed himself in the burgeoning dubstep movement – in addition to having accumulated an impressive selection of reggae & dancehall 45s. He linked up with the Dubslingers crew and began appearing regularly @ the highly popular ‘Dubslingers Wednesdays’ weekly at Thymeless in Toronto as well as the ‘Dancehall Generation’ monthly reggae events. Around the same time, Dubconscious began to flood the internet with a slew of high quality mixes via the website – [ Liquidfunk.ca ] These memorable mixtapes and strong live performances helped establish Dubconscious as a local favorite in Toronto – and beyond. These days, you can find him playing regularly for the Konkrete Jungle crew in Ottawa, Marcus Visionary’s Junglist Movement promotion company in Toronto, and lately, in cities all across the country. Over the past year, he’s played from Victoria to Montreal and all major Canadian cities between; alongside acts such as The Roots, MixMaster Mike, Andy C, Bassnectar, Nero, Excision & Datsik, Glitch Mob, Rusko, Skream, Antennae, Vibesquad, Redlight, & Jacky Murda. Dubconscious also recently completed his first tour abroad, appearing at festivals & clubnights across Spain. ____________________________________________________________ HARMSWORTH (N.S.) New comer to Montreal and already taking over, Harmsworth is back with a special birthday set!! Mark Harmsworth has been rockin’ the decks for over 8 years now and has accomplished much since stepping up and playing live in the last 4 years. A co-founder of Halifax collective ‘Break Beat Elite’ and ‘Halifield’ . Harmsworth is known for his ability to please a crowd, be it with jungle, breaks, glitch hop , electro, house ,dub step or a combination of all six. Mark has played all over the East Coast, from Toronto to Halifax, opening for Big League Chu, Myagi, Mistress Barbera, RCola, Bombaman, Poirier, Le Castle Vania, Excision, Dieselboy and the UK’s J-Bass and Lee Coombs as well many local favorites. With a Monthly residencies offering Halifax and Mocton the only regular drum and bass/breaks party, as well as organizing steady BBE and Halifield collective shows and the dedication and skill to win the Reflections DJ Idol, Mark Harmsworth has got to be one of the hardest working DJs in Halifax. A hero to those who love their beats broken, Harmsworth will rinse out the roughest and the toughest of riddims in style. ____________________________________________________________ COME DANCE !!!! ♥ |

hmmm i'll be honest i was expecting something else from you intro is good it's steady and you took your time that metalic-femalish loop of about 2sec starting at 1:10 is a god idea but i would stretch it a little more, it fits with the track but not quite theres something off about it now it sounds a little cheezy meaning that been used like that a lot before as for the drums, they're a little weak, we know theyre there but a bit faded, to me they sound like the basic ground on which something must be built, like theyre waiting for another layer to be added imho drums in a drum and bass track are what sets the tone, it should be drums meant to break bones the bass...well my computer speakers are not too great so cant really say all the pieces of this puzzle are there , however i think it's missing some "hostone violence" obviously you do what u want with what i wrote theres potential but work must be done on it cheers =) |

Well guys, last week was awesome & we're ready to do it all over again! This week we have: * DJ BLISS, PRIMATE & LOCO MOTIVE* /w your residents: Vilify & Construct -------- Dubstep, Glitch hop, DnB & who knows -------- ________________________________________________________________ DJ BLISS Montreal legend Bliss is back at Bass Drive, and we're so happy to have him. No one rocks a party quite like Bliss... A legendary figure in the Montreal nightlife, Bliss has consistently rocked the local club circuit for the past 14 years. Recognized as one of the city's most musically diverse djs, Bliss is a purist's nightmare. He was recently mentioned in Nightlife magazine's top 100 of Montrealers that have changed Montreal's nightlife, as well as a top position in the Hours 2006 list of best local djs. He has been involved in a number of very successful club nights notably The Grill (Breakbeats) and Voyeur (Electro). Over the past few years he has played hundreds of venues across the city, from small clubs to afterhours events alongside such luminaries as Dj Krush, Afrika Bambaataa, MSTRKRFT, Girl Talk, Freddy Fresh, Kool Herc, Atomic Hooligan, Aquasky, Thievery Corporation, Kid Koala, Krafty Kuts, Bonobo and The Streets to name a few. During his 20 years as a Dj, Bliss has traveled and played all over the world, notably the U.S., Africa, Israel, France and the UK. His first club residency in Montreal was at one of the city's oldest nightspots Le Passeport (in 1997) where he was the main resident for 3 years playing a mix of Electro, Breaks, Industrial and Alternative sounds to a packed house every Friday and Saturday. ________________________________________________________________ PRIMATE A first at Bass Drive, Primate is here to make you move! For nearly 5 years, Primate has observed, learned and repeated his art. At 31, Primate a.k.a. Max HC comes from a long musical path. From his first step with hip-hop to nowaday dubstep and glitch hop, he never stopped digging out the lattest releases. If mixing vinyls was his first idea, rapidly blending, looping and bouncing beats became the point. Now enjoy his glitchy mid tempo set while the bass hit your brain and dance like monkeys… Dance to the Primate I say ! ______________________________________________________________ LOCO MOTIVE One of the co-founders of Bass Drive, Loco Motive is up for a visit from New Brunswick to pound the dance floor with heart-pounding dnb, having just done the same in Halifax this past Friday when opening for Dirtyphonics. In the 6 years he's been playing, Loco Motive has rocked dancecfloors all across the eastern half of Canada, including Toronto, Montreal, London, Oakville, Halifax, Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Charlottetown, with hard-hitting drum'n'bass that keeps you on your feet. In the last few years he has headlined several shows across the country, and shared the stage with such names as Dirtyphonics, The Upbeats, Muffler, Saigon, NC-17, and Marty McFly. __ FREE before 11:30 / $3 after $3 beer special ALL NIGHT ♥ |

This week is another week of talented producers and wicked beats. With 2 new comers to the Bass Drive arena: *Ghislain Poirier & Dinkbridge (WIN) /w your residents: Vilify & Construct *$3 all night *$3 beer all night Here we go again... _______________________________________________________________ POIRIER Montreal legend Ghislain Poirier is here to make you move.. Drawing from a wide range of tropical riddims and urban electro, the power of Montreal-based DJ/producer Poirier’s bass blasts through any flimsy attempt to classify his music. Pinpointing the bits and pieces of dancehall beats, soca energy and electronic intensity is futile in the face of Poirier’s dance-driven creativity and air horn-worthy excitement. Signed to Ninja Tune, this is a man who just understands what works in the dance. Enemies Feat. Face-T [ aolradio.podcast.aol.com ] [ www.poiriersound.com ] ______________________________________________________________ DINKBRIDGE (WIN) With over a decade of production experience, and two releases from Lick The Wrap Records, Chris Komus is Dinkbridge, a dubstep machine aimed at doing things a little differently. More than just basslines and a beat, Dinkbridge is dark and cinematic, symphonic and progressive, with aggressive basslines and glitched-out percussion. People won't care if you mix great if they are not feeling what you're playing. agreed! i've noticed that most people don't even know when a mix is in the process a track selection that depends on the crowd's vibe is key and the only way to go thorough musical knowledge is a must (even better if it's for many different genres) don't take the audience for idiots, some of us actually do listen and are not around just for socializing although, personally, i'll pay a lot more attention to the mixing and technical skills why so? i find quality mixing is the backbone of a set and so much more pleasant, it shows when effort was put into a set cheap mixing (for example: switching tracks exactly after the 4-4 count without having introduced the other track at all) is a disrespect to the tracks being used and it annoys the f**k out of me when it comes to track selection, especially for dnb, i'll respect a dj even more for playing something less known than the usual anthems...don't get me wrong i ♥ heavy anthems BUT there's over 15 years of dnb to choose from. Let's not get redundant i believe djing is an artform and there's only a little percentage of people can live up to the challenge it's not because someone has rhythm and can count to 4 that they can necessarily dj i've heard so many shitty djs over the years(will not name names) but the worst of it all is witnessing some guy/chick pull out a cd or a usb key, press play, and "fake play" around with the mixer = disgusting!! that simply proves that some djs are around only for the fame and the groupies but that's just my opinion ... my advice: A)practice B)research C)professionalism, whatever the situation it'll be remembered, "it can take 20 years to build a good reputation but only 5 seconds to destroy it" D)be nice: don't take the audience and followers for granted...PLEASE leave the overinflated superstar dj ego at home! djs are not gods or a divine intervention in the end, the crowd always has the last word |

Gooday! This week get ready to rumble we're so stoked to have these two heavyweights of bass business Ce mercredi au menu: DIALECT One of the most sought after DJs and talented producers in Montreal, DIALECT is back to rock out Bass Drive with a special dubstep set! Straight outta the northern lands of Deux-Montagnes... Initially influenced by hip hop acts such as KRS One, Native Tongues, Gangstarr, Jeru tha damaja., He began to pursue a hip hop scratch dj status in 97. With the newer generation of "Shit-Hop" emerging from numerous hip hop labels, he became frustrated, fed up, and discontinued purchasing hip hop vinyls altogether. Still producing hip hop instrumentals, and working with local MC's, Dj Dialect was still unsatisfied with the current "scene" until his first visit to the afterhours. An easy convert to the Break Beat sound, Dialect blends the precision skills of turntablism with an ear for the underground electronic music community. Dialect can be heard spinnin' "erectro, real skool breaks, dirty disco, whore-house, fist funk" and more. Check out his toons! [ soundcloud.com ] __________________________________________________________________ REALITY (BC) Hailing from Victoria, we are so happy to have REALITY out for his Bass Drive debut!
