The world is full of bad jobs, but there's no reason to keep them. I suppose however if your idiot bosses are dumb enough to employ you at a high rate to do nothing you should take it to the bank. Just re-invest in something really amazing so that it's worthwhile, like the job you always wanted. Start your own businesses. The war on boredom is a non-stop battle and we must win, it's the only way!

Man, why is everyone so worried about "the scene" when it is clearly not a unified whole? PLUR is a dead concept to me because nobody stuck to it, in Toronto when the idea was popular they were saying stuff like how it should be PLUURR, Peace Love Unity Understanding Respect RESPONSIBILITY. Not to extol something that makes me shudder (namely PLUR and it's overuse and association with candy like that shitty costume above), but the responsibility thing is important. You have a responsibility as a promoter to entertain in a way that is responsible and that means that quality depends on how far you are willing to go to cover all the bases.

Personally I think that people have to stop worrying about this nebulous other that throws parties and just make sure that they encourage and develop their own parties. This is not going to splinter a scene and alliances and collaborations are not really necessary. Variety is the spice of life, and the spice maintains life and is vital to space travel. So let's all snort variety and let all sorts of variations on how we party exist. It's what really makes the world interesting.

Well I've heard enough of just about everything on here: Toronto parties sucking, old news, except the ones I go to are rather good, just not bullshit raves. I'm sure the Embryon one was good, though, they throw mad parties. Goodfellaz... not so great...

Gotta say though, that Hullabullo stabbing is really, really old news. Just like the famous Hullabullo ecstasy overdose, or what, that other fight that broke out at one. I dunno, I'd say stay away from big "raves" in Toronto, that scene is weak. Also, Happy Hardcore fucking sucks, it sucks hard, fucking accept it and you will never have to deal with that sort of routine sketchiness again.

Loft jokes, also old news, enough drama about the fucking loft. Get your own you jealous fucks.

Also design jokes, those are old news, I personally make all my artworks with nothing but lens flare and the impressionist painting effect.

That went so damn well... thank you everyone for coming, that was the sickest one yet! Mad props to all the DJs, what a fucking great lineup. Thanks Danny, you fucking rock, have a great time in the Colombian jungles, don't chew too much leaf, watch for the albino lady and stereotypical Colombian drug badguys. And whatever you do don't come back with a dead baby full of llelo.

Strangest occurrence of the evening was when the cops showed up at the end of it all. We weren't asked to turn the volume down the first few times they dropped by, apparently somebody upstairs forgot to clear things with neighbours, but we were cool, so that was for them, so these two confused officers of the law come by, ask us questions, get our IDs, and then for some reason we showed them our lease, which said that we have to use the premises to make music (I'm not going into further details, it's a private document). It actually says that... no joke. So if we keep the parties going non stop, we're meeting the lease requirements, and hence can stay on the premises as long as that is the case. So we need you guys to keep us residing at this loft by coming by for all subsequent parties. Please. The cops got all hardball with us because we turned the music off and now we have to keep playing our guitars or drums or basses or CDjs at the very least and we're only allowed to use our computers to run Ableton Live or other sequencers. If we stop we have to move out, and they said they would shoot us. They already shot Mathieu in the knee when he got up from the kit for a glass of water. They're on break so I took the opportunity to quickly write this message. So, um, I guess we have no choice but to PARTY!

If the parties you're going to suck, you're going to the wrong parties. If you go out just because you need a place to get high you've got things bass ackwards. If you're jaded after years of partying then you probably have to change something.

Bref if you don't like what's going on, do something better yourself! And it doesn't have to be a nightmare, there are all sorts of ways to make an event happen. Most important as far as I see it is to be sincere with people and show support so that the good vibes come back around and people are down with what you're doing. Put out good energy, socialize, then show people you care, is it really any more difficult than that? The problem is a lot of people are totally distant and cold with the people they book, like they don't try to at least make sure they have rapport. That I think is why there's a lot of random events that aren't wisely planned, people often get too nervous or excited about getting it all to work out and then they wind up with a mess. Nothing works well without a level head. A lot of people don't have one. And charisma. If you want to throw a party you had better be a really cool person. I know, snob en esti, but think about it, people don't attend parties thrown by unpopular people. Not to praise the cult of personality, but I know that regardless of the value of integrity and all that, personality goes a long way.

As for booking tons of DJs in one night you have to think about flow. The entire party is a macrocosm of the mix. As a promoter the duty is to keep the dancefloor packed just as it is for the DJs, so you have to think out how to get the progression of music going. There are tons of people who love all sorts of music and are a lot happier to have the variety and choice. This is why festivals are so big.

So what the hell started this thread anyways? It's an interesting thread but I'm wondering what the initial post was in reference to.

Anyways, hope you get the sand out of your vagina, because I guess minus all the generalizations of the entire scene this is pretty cool to discuss.

Yup, I ain't got a dental plan either at work, but then I realized the tooth pains were drug related, and guess what, I stopped doing any sort of drug for a while and no tooth pain! Plus eating well, that seems to help. Plaque, possible calculus problems, yes, I could use a cleaning for that, but hey, MedDen is up the street and when you get a paycheque, you can buy yourself a cleaning! It's highway robbery but you don't have to do it again for ages!

BTW you should probably not be so lazy about receiving that welfare cheque because dentistry is actually covered, and you should at least receive a discount based on your financial status. You're probably looking at orthognathic surgery, and that being a rather major operation you should be able to discuss coverage with your case worker. Look into it. Also if you volunteer or make a claim for a particular diet you should be able to get more money.

Yo back up, calm down there Karin. Neko came out of the blue after a year to drag up old news and try to make me look bad. You made me feel insulted by acting like what we're doing is totally pointless and insignificant or the wrong way to do it. Issues or no, all I did was get a little pissed off about your attitude, and I'm sorry that I involved NTK. Did you read the post where I said I wanted to drop it? Because ultimately, Karin, Mat, I've known you guys for years and we all have issues, but I know that we're all capable of dealing with them better than making it a forum thing. So even if you're still insulted or I'm still insulted I doubt we're going to resolve anything on this thread. Talk to me in person, or on MSN, or the phone, like I said before.

I know that you haven't run into shit with Neko but Kat and Simon have, Erin has, and so have I. Probably because we lived with him, and he can't really have roommates. I still fail to see what I did wrong in that situation, I've never lived with someone that neurotic (and I don't mean your crew), and it was quite frustrating that I couldn't ever get through things by arguing logic. I can show anyone who wants to read it his retarded letter to me, it certainly doesn't look like it came from somebody with his head on straight. You think I'm lying about anything regarding Neko? It's sort of the other way around, he's taken his delusion and tried to convince everyone it's reality. I never had anything against him before this shit went down, I had let go of it because it's been a whole fucking year, and I didn't start the bashing. I told the truth, sorry if it burns.

You may want to look into whether you are suffering from a borderline personality disorder, one of the typical symptoms is having great difficulty keeping your connections with people intact. It's apparently treatable and actually all the other advice is quite relevant... it's also an unusually common disorder, which makes me think that this diagnosis fails to really examine the individual.

It's also possible that you haven't yet found people who properly suit you. You have to think about the reasons why it's hard to stay in touch too, sometimes the reasons are quite logical. Look at what parts of the communication breakdown have to do with the other person and which are mostly your perceptions. I hope I'm not being too personal by suggesting all that...

Now I'm a hell of a lot more frustrated about getting an email for a pointless petition, looking it up, finding only the hoax, and then discovering that it's a hoax after getting on my high horse. And the thing is, tons of animals do starve on the streets daily and most people do dick all about it.

I used to feed the local strays near where that cat-skinning happened and that was totally for real. Whatever you guys have against cats, I still wouldn't kill them. Unless they spray my boots. If I find that fucker I will seriously kill him.
