Can you really not see a single problem with having kids there? Was the music really always below 100dba? If not, 2 hours of exposure causes permanent damage to adults, much less children.
Rock shows typically play at 120dba or higher...
Did you not see a single person tripping out? Do you really think it's healthy for a child to be exposed to that?
I think you may be missing the point in the sense that it's not about what there is that is OK for children but rather the point that so long as there's even ONE single aspect of the event that isn't OK, it automatically becomes a bad idea to bring your kids there. And like Gamos said, are you going to be watching your kid the entire time? The ONLY answer to that question should be yes, and if it's yes, then why bother going in the first place... why not do something a little be more appropriate for the kid. At that point it becomes selfish... you're just not doing what's in the best interest of the child.

to each their own you know, i've seen kids at festivals, and it didn't look like it was destroying their life.
No one is saying that... it's just, questionable. But that doesn't make it wrong.

btw you were joking about charlie sheen right?

Bringing children to any place or situation geared towards adults getting intoxicated seems like a very bad idea, alcohol included. I think things like family reunions or weddings or something like that is OK because people aren't there to get fucked up. But glamorizing drug use crosses the line... I'm not anti-drug but I am smart enough to know that ALL DRUGS ARE BAD. And kids should be allowed to understand that on their own.... I think a kid under 10 just can't understand what you tell him over what he sees... and if you're going to stay sober and not be high or drunk around your kid, then maybe choose something more innocent than a hard drug friendly event.
Not only that but let's be honest, drugs are illegal, you don't want your kid seeing people destroy themselves, taking illegal illicit drugs and thinking that it is OK. They will get thrown in jail if they get caught trying the same thing, do you understand that? Do you want your kid thinkings drugs are okay and getting thrown in jail? No. You don't.
Is that going to happen, probably not, but are the chances greater if you introduce them to that 'scene' at a young age, I think so.

Some of you might think that acid opened your eyes to the world or some retarded shit like that, but no, it's a recreational thing and although it may help you progress spiritually, practically it goes nowhere and more importantly, it's illegal. And if you don't understand why it's STUPID to do illegal things, regardless or whether or not you agree with the law, then you've obviously burned too many brain cells already and probably shouldn't have kids in the first place.
You want to teach kids responsibility, right? And illegal activities are irresponsible.

It's just unintelligent to allow your child to think that any drug or substance is 'normal' and I think that a kid seeing all that in action from a young age will affect their view for the rest of their lives...

I'm not an expert on child education or development... these are my uninformed opinion... but whenever I see or hear about adults who have serious drug problems, anything from alcohol to crack, 99% of the time, their parents are addicts themselves.
The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree...

it's ok to disagree with me, I'm not any more 'right' than anyone. But I was raised with the knowledge that all forms of intoxicating substances are 'not good', and to this day I believe it is true. Consequently I have a great job, great education, a great girlfriend and an excellent life that I couldn't feel more lucky to have. so maybe I just got lucky, or maybe a proper uncorrupted, for the most part, upbringing played a role in my current success.

I challenge everyone to find me an example of a person they respect for their achievements who was heavy into drugs or was brought up in that environment. I can think of a handful of artists only, and they ALL died of drug overdoses.... beautiful.

to me I think it's not that some people are sober, it's that most people are high. I can totally see a kid not affected much if the sound isn't blasting, but then that must kind of suck for the parents.
I mean, bring your kid camping instead, do something wholesome and stop experimenting with hard drugs when another life depends on you. you never know when you're going to get a bad hit and literally go nuts or 'change' for the worse at an event like that... it's NOT all fun and games you know?
So yeah, sure, bring your kids to a festival, but not an electronic music, druggie filled one :\
I have not been to open mind but I'm 95% sure it fits that description.

when I was younger, my parents brought me to something called Bread and Puppet.
it was a huge hippie style convention thingy, it wasn't overnight and there was always this huge show right before it ended using puppets and such (like, giant ones you needed 4-5 people to manoeuvre. sure people were smoking weed and drinking and probably other things too, but there was no loud music, the drugs were by far not the standard and my parents were totally sober.

it was more like going to see the fireworks than going to 'party', and that was awesome... sadly the whole thing got shut down one year after somebody got shot...
thinking about it now, how could it NOT have been because of some drug deal gone wrong.

When drugs are involved, very very bad people are always lurking nearby.

i meant more about him hurting a girl... guy on guy violence is a.o.k. in my book, unless the provocateur is constantly starting shit
sucks about the threat too, but you guys have some bad personal history no? I mean to say simply that it's not like he just met you and decided to threaten you...
and really I'm not defending him, just playing the devil's advocate, kinda like in the 'cheap promoter's thread'

to take your comment literally, probably none. I think for a girl to even ask herself if it's a possibility is the point which she decides to stop being 'available' and start protecting herself...
I'm not defending anyone or anything here; I just think that each situation should be judged on it's own and in this case, something was said that made it seem like this guy was a real threat to someone's safety

and common girls! the situation often plays out like this:
Guy shows interest in you so:
A) you like him back so he's sweet and 'romantic'
B) you don't like him so he's a perv/creep

it's all relative and the 'guy' here did nothing different to deserve either label. it's ur opinion of him that makes ALL the difference.

So we have a nail, we have a hammer, let's nail this right on the head.

Guy likes young women: Oh that's NEVER happened before... Oh wait, ALL GUYS like young looking women. (guys also like mature women but that doesn't mean 'not young')

Guy hits on girl: run for the hills, he MUST be a rapist. for fuck's sake! exaggerate much?

Guy takes advantage of situation to offer a girl something that will lead to him getting a chance at getting something from the girl, regardless of whether she wants the same thing or not: no one can read minds, if you don't try you won't succeed. And how many perfectly normal relationships start with exactly that situation. I'd guess... all of them.

So is our local paparazzi a creep? maybe to some.
Is he doing anything criminal? maybe, misdemeanour at best though, probably not even a criminal but rather civil offence. And I'm only referring to that movie, never heard of him doing anything too nefarious otherwise.
Is he a threat? I don't think he's a threat at all, he might annoy you or you might not like him for one of a hundred reasons. But has he ever actually hurt anyone physically? No, he hasn't.

I'm not saying leave him alone or anything, I don't give a fuck, but some things were said that were in no way shape or form meant for humour that I find had serious implications and I don't want anyone unfamiliar with the situation/guy to think something that's simply false.

All women should ALways watch themselves, you'll have guys who seem shy or normal or nice or whatever that are way more dangerous than this guy. At the very least, Antonino is straight forward and he knows what he wants; you women should APPRECIATE a guy like that because you can know right away what he wants and make a decision right then and there about what to do. He's not lying or manipulating or crossing any 'serious' lines, is he?
(hey, maybe he is, I just think everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt and taking the opinion of a biased individual as truth is a horrible way to form an opinion on anything)

again, I think shit like this goes too far when the guy is allegorically accused of something we're all pretty damn sure he wouldn't do.
