chill winston... mixing a track with a variable bpm or uneven BARS can be a pain in the ass, i.e. make one sweat...
the gain issue for me generally means that one of the tracks just wasn't made proper to begin with and so I generally won't play it... I'll play a tune that is steady on the bpm, has a structure I can mix properly with and if well produced and mastered as often as I can.

I'm talking preference not rule tho...

Also, those 5 minutes between tracks are necessary for rolling joints!! but other than checking to see if the beatzmatch and doing a brief sound check, there's not much else to do... is there? make sure the track isn't skipping? (but I never have that problem cause I always burn cds custom before every gig)

girls can get pregnant at about 11-13 years old... disgusting I know... but their bodies are physically ready. men on the other hand can ejaculate on the other hand like anytime... they usually figure it out at about that same age though...
if there weren't so much stigma as there is, and if we weren't living as long as we are, you'd all be married with children right now

and maturity has NOTHING to do with sex, or reproduction. In fact, when the 'feelings' are there, you're able.
but hey I got lucky for the first time at 19 years old so what do I know?

I agree that there are generally ways you can get 'that' track into your set, with proper transitions from other tracks as you say, but then again, if you have 15 tracks and only time to play 12, it's a lot easier to just cut out the three most troublesome...
it's like tracks that change BPMs or fuck with their BAR arrangement... either you need to know the track in great amount of detail... or play a track that doesn't make you sweat as much...
my solution in the past has been to play those tracks first or last, so you don't get the mid-set weirdness.

yeah that would work... the dancers would notice a difference but stylistically the transition would be ok...
I'd argue two things here though... first it's really hard to tell on youtube since they rape the sound quality to begin with and second, if the mastering is done proper, the antares track will probably sound much louder than any old astral projection track...

you may be right though that it has more to do with style than production quality in some cases... although let's look at another example

vs

and oh! one of the more recent astral tracks REALLY demonstrates a huge leap in production quality

doesn't get much clearer than that

I hear an amazing difference in production quality, it's insane how much better every single element sounds in the second track.
I'm not saying one song is inherently better than the other, just talking straight up non-musical sound quality/production level

I always thought the justice system was in place to determine beyond a reasonable doubt whether or not a person was guilty of the crime they were accused of and then to sentence the person to a punishment that fits the crime. This serves as a deterrent to others who might commit crime as they will see that they won't get away with it without being punished.
They aren't there to draw the line between right and wrong, that's what law makers do.

you misread what I wrote, I am not saying people don't care about others when they are being harmed, I am saying that people jump to conclusions about people they do know who aren't necessarily being harmed. to put this into a concrete example... if your little sister wanted to date antonino because she likes his photography, you'd most likely be appalled and do everything in your power to stop her, saying, OH, well he's OLDER than you! when in reality it doesn't matter what you think, it's none of your business. "Damn hell it IS my business" you might say... well that's my point.

When one person harms another, I most certainly do care and in cases where that harm is physical, I think the punishments should even be more strict then they are, sometimes. But laws don't take this into account, they lets rapists out after 10 years and put stupid 14 year olds in jail for years because they trick their girlfriend into getting naked. I find that people are less and less responsible for their own actions and in my previous example of the two 14 year olds, well if the kid is a pedophile and gets sent to jail then the girl should too, because she's the one who actually created the material...
I'm just sick of societies' constant habbit of drawing a clear cut line between victim and criminal, it's never that simple and if you're in a situation that gets you victimized, chances are (NOT ALWAYS) it's partially your own damn fault, and instead of punishing both people, or just punishing one, the whole thing shouldn't go to the state or country to decide, because unless there was some serious unreasonable/abnormal harm being done, it's none of their business. You'd think the girl would learn her lesson and the boy would get grounded or something... is that not enough?

it's like the drug laws, how is it the government's problem that I smoke weed, wtf are they trying to protect me or society from? so OK, maybe you agree there, what about crack, what about heroin? Am I harming anyone but myself? how does it fall under society's responsibility to control what I do to myself?
Some times they go too far, other times, not far enough, but all this middle ground bullshit destroys the system because it makes it too weak in some cases and too strong in others...
And of course I'm not saying I'm right, and although I don't believe there's a universal 'right' or 'wrong', I do personally have those notions.

*Disclaimer: these are just my opinions today and they are not set in stone, also my opinions do not reflect those of my employer.

call me a psy snob, but it's not that simple in psy... production quality has changed drastically over the last 8 years, even over the last 4 years...
not to mention artists' various levels of mastering and headroom... I can see how in other styles, the little blinking lights are enough... but in psy, old tracks don't have enough power to be turned up and sound even remotely comparable

no 'right', no 'wrong', just perspectives, morals and feelings

anne: meh... kick drums are bad for my health, lol, tinnitus isn't only ringing in one's ears... it's also head aches, occasional nausea and dizziness, for life. i'm in the process of deciding whether or not I'm willing to let it get worse...

screwhead: gain knobs are ok, but we, DJs, don't hear what the crowd hears, fractions of a rotation make huge differences on huge systems. i've seen too many faces go from :D to 0_o to know that 'trying' to level the gain isn't enough...

When did I say we should consider them adult enough to fuck? It's not of our business to consider anything about them. The girl filmed herself for what she CLAIMED was a weak psychological threat.
And hey, I'm not saying what either of them did was 'right', the kid should be taught that he did something wrong, but being put in jail? Getting labeled with sex offender for life? Do you honestly think that that punishment fits the crime?

i recently contracted tinnitus, my days as a dj are numbered :'(

and honestly I totally agree with you, and I have to say that it's not the music that prevents me from playing it, it's the production quality, I can't be turning the volume up and down every track...

there's no such thing as 'right' or 'wrong', it's only your opinion, with that said. the only thing that I think is wrong is when there's 'harm' being done. otherwise, let people do whatever they want to do, unless one of the people involved doesn't want...

i dunno if you guys heard recently that a 14 year old boy is being brought up on pedophilia charges in the states because his girlfriend sent him a video of herself pleasuring... herself...
the girl claims she was forced into it cause the boy said he wouldn't be her friend if she didn't do it...
Meanwhile the 14 year old boy is being tried as an adult and might do jail time and be put on the sex offender list...

There are situations where people should be punished for their actions, but when you generalize things to the point where: "Person was born 16 rotations of the earth around the sun ago, so if she's naked and someone sees it, they go to jail." things are just out of control... law is not reasonable in that case... it's just plain blind. we're all just fucking animals, TRIPLE pun intended.
