About a day out of port, the captain of the Mexican purse-seiner -- a boat more than 200 feet long and weighing some 600 tons with a huge fishing net -- throws the vessel out of gear and "lays to" in the warm waters of the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean (ETP). This is prime fishing territory for yellowfin tuna.
The vessel’s powerful hydraulic system hauls the net close and pulls it upward. Dozens of dolphins are slung together in the middle. Nursing calves are separated from their mothers. Some dolphins are severely injured, others are utterly exhausted. A tapered flipper bends precariously, a white-tipped beak gasps for air. Entire schools of dolphins may be seen fighting for breath against the strangling canopy of netting created by currents of water during backdown. Hundreds, sometimes even thousands, of dolphins in one set have suffocated in this manner. Others, suffering broken beaks or pectoral fins torn from their sockets, die later.

Think about it, tuna-loving dolphin killers!!!

yeah. little sarah is right. depending on where it comes form (which you dont know if you buy it in a can), if you buy a fresh filet of tuna from a shop, then you know where its from, and you might be able to eat it more often/

*sigh* y'all too fuckin' paranoid. There isn't enough mercury in ANY fish for it to be of any worry, unless you eat fish 7 times a day since you were born. Fuck, look at Gaspe, the fisherman there eat it like 12 fucking times a day and it's not an issue at all.

Y'all just can't live your life without trying to feel holier than everyone else because you're oh-so-perfect.

fuckin' wankers.
