Biography - Jocelyn D
DJing for over six years have taught Jocelyn D how to work a crowd. Whether dropping smooth dnb in a laid back lounge or the roughest jungle at a packed party, Jocelyn D gets the job done. “As cliché as it sounds, for me it is about the music,” Jocelyn D says. “I started DJing in 1996 because I loved the beats and the bass, and that has never changed. The fact it is so versatile and there are so many styles is what keeps me interested in spinning it.” At the present, Jocelyn D is an Oscillate Recordings and Chicks Dig It resident. She is also one half of the force behind Automate events, alongside Queensyze. At Automate’s debut extravaganza held August 9, at the B-Side Lounge in Toronto, she had the pleasure of opening for San Francisco’s DJ Sage. Because of the great response to this event, Automate is already hard at work planning the next installment. Jocelyn D began collaborating with fellow dnb DJ/Producer Queensyze in the spring of 2002. After appearing alongside each other as guests at a local club night, they found their similar yet characteristic DJing styles complemented one another nicely. Their recent Boxxx Set double mixed CD project grew out of this collaboration. It is now available online and at major stores in the Toronto area including: 2 The Beat, Metropolis and Numb. Jocelyn D’s recent projects, apart from regular DJ appearances, include establishing her own space online [ www.jocelyndee.com ] running Automate and working as the news editor for Rinse Magazine. Although her website is still under construction, it features news, background/contact info, a gallery of photos and flyers, a forum/guestbook and a schedule of upcoming dates. Jocelyn D’s past performances are too numerous to list individually but she has played at many high profile Toronto nightclubs including: Turbo, Embryus, Milano’s, Surface, Cream, Audio Werks, Labrynth Lounge, the Big Bop, 160, Zoo Bar, IV Lounge and The B-Side among others. She also played at the Om Festival, the World Electronic Music Festival and Oakville’s Shell Skate Park, as a DJ for the Ride Like a Girl, skate contest. Her frequent appearances at non-commercial, musically-focused events keep her in tune with the vibrant underground scene. She has also played on two of Toronto’s key underground radio stations 88.1 FM CKLN and 89.5 FM CIUT. With such diverse experience Jocelyn D can rock any sound-system able to handle the BASS. In terms of talent, Jocelyn D has appeared alongside A list artists including: Supply and Demand, Rapoon and Jumpin’ Jack Frost. Jocelyn D is a former Ottawa resident, where she held a two-year-long residency at the Cave Nightclub. She also broadcast the sounds of drum and bass to a wider audience as a DJ and co-host of the Beat Down and Yum radio shows on CKCU 93.1 fm. |
