How would you write down in letters the sounds of techno Carlos ??
Seb, do u mean, how would I describe it in words? If so, please note; I'm not a writter and english is my 3rd language and my definition is, in some points, very personal in a way that I know that some people out there won't agree=I don't consider myself as a reference though I believe I am right......my opinion, if u will :) That being said, all you would get from me is something like this..."so it's like very tribal and linear. Some would just call that "repeptitive" but what kind of music, with the main purpouse of making people dance, isn't? even hip-hop, if u take out the lyrics of course :b..... it can range from linear with some funk at times but not all that "funky" as in house or funk itself, more like in an african tribe or a samba feel in some styles of tech (Marco Bailey, Filterheadz etc...) to very cold and maybe even "feelingless", if I can put it that way, because I still think it's got what is known as "soul", in others (thomas krome, Kay D. Smith, Westwood Bros.).....and then there's minimal tech, hard minimal tech (there's a difference if you compare Richie Hawtin and Leo Laker, for example) straight or "pure" techno, hard-techno, funky-tech, schranz, french-hartek (this one's really new to me and I'm not sure I like it yet), progressive-tech, psychedelic-tech/tech-trance (there is a difference but I honestly don't know it)" and just more babble like that more...... plus my definition of techno doesn't include Ghetto Tech for different reasons....it's not "techno" to my ears and it's not about the same thing.....it's got a different attitude behind it, just like hip-hop isn't "electronic" music though pretty much all the sounds in it are synthezied and sequenced by some sequencer of some kind (ex: drum machine). I also don't include Ghetto-Tech in Techno because it doesn't stand for "Ghetto-Techno", it stands for Ghetto-Techniques. I just personally put it in the same bag as booty-house. Notice, I don't use feelings when I describe music, I'm just really objective when I explain it, I use "descriptions" or other styles as examples so it in the end it might just be all "it sounds like this and like that"...or in other words, I just sound like some pointless nerd and I would just rather make a person listen to it than just using words to describe sounds.....I know I just did it now but that was just to give u an example of how much of bad "explainer" I am without avoiding your question....thank (damn, that was long) ....anyways , ask Lalla. He's got better skills at writting. |
