Boy ejecting live flies through urine in Bengal district - June 16, 2003 - 02:58 Burdwan (West Bengal): A 13-year-old boy has been admitted to the Burdwan Medical College Hospital with a bizarre symptom of live insects coming out through his urine. Hailing from Kanthaldanga village in Birbhum district, Chandan Goswami reported pain in the pelvic region while passing urine and noticed live black fly-like things coming out. He was immediately taken to the district hospital some eight days back. He was shifted Saturday to the BMCH where attending doctors saw him passing five to six tiny creatures, much like house-flies, through urine. The principal of the BMCH, Dr Benoy Mukhopadhyay, said that the creatures belonged to the Phenia Sakalaris species and samples had been sent to the School of Tropical Medicine in Kolkata for examination. Doctors at the hospital prima facie explained that eggs of the creature somehow entered Chandan's body and fertilised there, giving birth to the worms. The state health director, Pravakar Chattapadhyay, today visited the hospital to enquire about the boy's condition as curious people thronged the premises. Reports in a section of media quoting doctors said that the boy had been diagnosed with a rare disease occuring in animals in central and southern America. [ TajaNews ] |
