 Coolness: 83400 | People who know me know that im always the first to jump in to help someone being assaulted (when im SURE he/she didnt deserved it). Gave me a couple of scar,but no regret. It stronger than me, its in my blood. And im sure im not the one serious about this. It will not start from here of course but id really like to know what you think about it. Peace! :) |

To all who think that violence is the only way to reach these kids, I strongly suggest you watch the video "Favela Rising" [ www.favelarising.com ] Brazil is no stranger to useless, corrupt cops, but Anderson Sa found the way to get the kids from his Favela to give it all up. He is a truly inspiring person who used music to get the kids off drugs and away from the gangs. |

 Coolness: 686310 | Unfortunately, as was mentioned earlier, one of the main problems right now IS music - they listen to music that glorifies being a thug, robbing people, smoking weed, selling drugs, treating women like shit and beating them.. They've already got music, and the only music they'd be interested in doing is just more of the same crap that promotes violence and drug use. |

If people bombard their brain with messages of hate, misogyny, violence & greed, and all that bullshit Then dont be surprised if you see people acting it out. These kids are acting out what their ROLE MODELS show them. Ask any of these kids who they look up too they'll tell you 50 cent, 2 Pac, Eminem, and people like that. I dont see kids who listen to classical music out acting like thugs, I don't see ravers acting like thugs, I dont see people who listen to funk act like thugs. I dont even see people who listen to metal act like thugs, they are actually some of the nicest cats you'll meet No, the only people I see acting like thugs are these kids who listen to all this gangster hip hop bullshit and then think its fun to go out and seriously injure and mug innocent bystanders |

You would expect people who listen to death or speed metal or terrorcore to go bonkers and kill or maim people and yet, I ain't saying hip-hop is bad but statistically speaking, I'm pretty certain most violent offenders out there listen to it. Aren't 'hip-hop' lyrics a product of the culture, and not the other way around? Also, at some point you have to blame the people for being too easily influenced, instead of blaming music for its influence on people. I mean, not everyone rents a room at the Heartbreak Hotel after listening to Elvis. Then again, sometimes lyricists write songs in hopes of influencing people ... so I guess, shoot the messenger? |

People forget that the people who originally pioneered hip hop (Afrika Bambaataa, Sugarhill Gang and even De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers and Tribe later) promoted an attitude of racial unity, peace & non violence. They were actually REACTING to the negativity around them, the drug dealers, the pimps, the gangsters & the like.
Out of that culture we got TURNTABLISM, GRAFFITI ART (not the scribbles you see today, but real art), BREAKDANCING and a bunch of other really COOL and POSITIVE stuff. Back then people got together at block parties and danced and shared stuff and had a good time. Kind of like the raves today. Its safe to say none of you guys would be the djs you are today without the pioneering work of hip hop djs. Myself included. Then enter NWA and Ice T in the 90s and mainstream hip hop suddenly became synonymous with racial hatred with the "N" word used every two seconds, thuggery, violence & misogyny, it became a culture where gangsters were glorified and women were just objects to be slapped around. Thats when I saw a real attitude change on the streets, all of a sudden hip hop kids were the most OBNOXIOUS kids on the block. They became loud, uncivilized, uncultured & aggressive. People you just didn't want to be around I'm not saying all hip hop is like that today, they are still amazing hip hop artists out there keeping it real, but they are often overshadowed by the negative ones. So while many rappers claim to just be representing the reality of the streets, the reality is that they are merely feeding the negativity on the streets by making it seem ok to act like that. Its a vicious circle. |
