Well, you see Liam, at one point until about the late 80s, Montreal was THE mecca of our great country, then due to a couple of complete asshats and old biggots, political turmoil turned the city divided more then before, starting what was to be a detremental exodus of Montreal talent and wealth. Combined with the temporary closure of the old port and re-routing of ship lanes, Montreal's balance of power slipped for over a decade. So began Toronto's rise, only they could never quite do it like we did, a slender shaddow of what a Canadian iconic city should be, Toronto today stands as more of an embarrassment to our great country then anything else, though it also happens to be the capital of Canadian business(sic). IMO, I've always considered Toronto to be the least Canadian city in Canada, so commercial and boring, almost as entertaining as a dead dinner guest. So essentially, there was a combination of factors that in Toronto's rise and Montreal slow and painful demise, and for those who are as old as me or older, the bitter taste never really left. Above mentioned text put aside, most don't know this, but as far back as the 20's, Montreal was the original Vegas, as in, before Vegas existed, when people wanted to let lose to brothels, gambling, all night bars etc/// they came to Montreal! The McCord Museum has an amazing collection of black and white photos from Montreals past, I strongly suggest anyone to check em' out. Ufot-my history, my city, MY ISLAND! | |
