Pirate VST's + Pirate Cubase = unstable hell

I've already saw that, fuc*$5 unstable! Thats why im going to buy my thing. I want to deal with the creation, not cumputer bugs :p

For the midi controler I already have at home a Roland Fantom-Xa, so I may use that as controler or synth.

I like the idea: try before buy, VST are expensive, and buying some that will finally got useless is a good way to waste my cash. But I want to use only legit thing. I read a lot of review on new VST, and its helpfull to find some that may be usefull. Which VST are you using the most, or you find the most usefull? (Or its a producer secret?)
I'm feeling groovy right now..

AS for me, the ones I use the most are FM8, Massive, Audiorealism Bassline and Reflex (which actually act as a loop slicer, similar to the Reason's Dr.Rex) and Battery 3.
Look for these ones :)
I'm feeling horny right now..

meh.. reaktor is freaking complicated, still need to learn that one..

i'd say for hard trance (and yes, usually it's a producer secret but fuck it, most people never use the advices you give them!)

VSTi
¯¯¯¯
Nexus (tranceee)
Z3ta+ (more tranceeee)
V-Station (tranceeetranceee)
Massive (all-around cool sounds, trance, electro, etc)
Korg Legacy (tranceezz)
Korg Legacy Digital Collection (cool instrumental sounds)
Discovery (not bad at all!)
Sylenth1 (interesting)
Gladiator (interesting as well)
Blue (quite nice trance)
Atmosphere (pads)
Trilogy (basses and other electro-ish phatness)
Stylus (wicked loops)
Albino 3 (my favorite for basslines)
Kontakt (best/easiest sampler.. must-have... can also work as a loop slicer)
Battery (drum sampler.. however it's not necessary, myself I stopped using it)

VST
¯¯¯
Waves Diamond Bundle (meh, just get it till you find better)
d.blue glitch (overused, but if you're creative you can manage cool shit)
Kjaerhus plug-ins [ www.kjaerhusaudio.com ] check out their free stuff, nice compressors, EQ and more)
Sonnox Oxford Dynamics Native (great compression and more)
TC Native Bundle (more compression shnizz)
Antares Tube (amazing distortion)
Quadrafuzz (amazing distortion (cubase only))
Antares Autotune (become a singer in a few clicks)
Voxengo Analogflux Suite (reverbs, chorus, delay, shit you neeed)
Orange Vocoder (r0b0tz invasion)
Camelphat (wicked LFO effects and more)
PSP84 (nice delay)

... and there's much more ... but I don't have cubase in front of me, those are the first ones I can think of. hours of fun guaranteed.

feel free to check out the myspace for some clipz, my hardcore is pretty trancey and made with most of these tools : [ www.myspace.com ] (add me to your friends)

anybody uses hardware preamps and compressor after their soundcard? it helps giving some warmth and bring the track up to specs so to speak :) so yeah its all good being all software but its even better to be hybrid :D

its not that expensive if you know what you are looking for :D

example : run your kick and snares thru a DBX266XL to get that hiphop snappiness !
[ www.dbxpro.com ] ( i saw one for like 120$ on kijiji)

another trick (a little more expensive) is to use an AKAI MPC to play back sample slower!the Mpc gives a more much nicer sound when you pitch down samples ! i have no idea why but it does ! also the mpc uses quantization algorithm that might differ from your DAW (unless youre using protools)

so yeah basically hardware can give you an edge but its a lot of reading comparing reviewing etc... :) happy beat making

^right on. In the end it's not your plug-ins but how you use them that make the difference. I've heard a lot of artists doing things like running sounds through tape decks, or old rare vintage gear. I remember one artist who would run all his sounds through his virus. What your looking for is your own distinct sound. And I don't give a shit what anyone sais every piece of equipment you use will taint your sound in a different way. No "emulation" of a classic synth will sound just like the original. And no two plug-ins are equal.

Your best bet is to just buy shit as you need it. If you hit a wall while producing and go: fuck I really need a synth that gives me better bass, or I'd really like to add a vocal track here then go ahead and get that. Avoid impulse purchases, and research the shit out of everything you buy. The more you start producing and researching the more you'll come to realize what you need.

But remember man, in the end it all comes down to what's in between your chair and your keyboard.
I'm feeling wtf charles? right now..

deffo! I've been producing shit on my two year old macbook (with zomgzzzz only 1 gig of ram zoooommmmgggzz), no hardware, no external soundcard, okay monitors, one vsti + waves bundle and for the longest time, no midi controler... I just went for a more elaborate vsti (massive to albino) and got a midi controller so I can perform with my band and I might get myself a firebox soon but seriously though... I'm very happy I took the time to fuck around alot before buying anything! I quite certainly would have wasted a big ass stack of cash for no god damned reason!

so yeah... more of the same, dont spend a penny, fuck around and then you will know what to buy and you probably wont have to ask a forum about it
I'm feeling lovely right now..

I've already fuck arround ..lol!
But still, I really take advise of people who are more into it than me as good advise. I'm not going to do the exact same thing than other. But advise still a good way to improve. And since i've fuck arround for some time now, I was wandering, what could be the best to start in a more professionnal. Anyways, I heard very good advise ,thank all of you, I got the best point, you can work with whatever you have. Well, I find it nice that some of you nicely produce with basic thing.
