they don't have anybody surrounded.

The capital of Iraq, Baghdad is almost completely in the coalition force's hands but the whereabouts of Saddam Hussein are still unknown and unless they capture him or find his corpse, it wont be known for a long time what happened.

The Iraqi ambassador to the UN conceded to defeat though, saying "The Game is Over", but since the leadership of Iraq is now pretty much destroyed, there are divisions of troops uncertain as to whats going on, unable to contact their commanders. Most of the fighting is taking place in Northern Iraq.

Now, the question is, how long is the US going to be there? Potential future leaders of Iraq are already questioning the true intentions of the US and British forces, wondering why there is no support being given to the southern cities (completely under controll of the coalition troops), they are wondering why, if this isn't an occupation, did a marine put an american flag on the head of Saddam Hussein's statue, and why, in a city with a population of 5 million+, were there only a few hundred people celebrating the removal of Iraq.

Many people wanted Saddam Hussein gone, but those people did not want him removed this way. There were hundreds of thousands more to protest the war in Baghdad, but there are only a few hundred celebrating its obvious victory.

Oh, they never found chemical or biological weapons, or any other weapons of mass destruction.

And we also saw how weak the US military was in this war.

148 allied forces were killed in the first gulf war, which lasted 48 days. At that time, Iraq had the fifth largest military in the world, along with the most heavily gaurded city (Baghdad) in the world.

133 allied forces were killed in 2 weeks in this war, against an enemy whose army is was dwarfed by the sheer size of the US military. Thousands of them surrendered in the first few days of the ground war. Over 7300 are in custody in two weeks.

This will have a great effect on other countries who oppose the US, such as North Korea. They will see that size is not as important as experience and ability to fight, which the US lacks.

Lets see what happens now...

Yeah, the US is being very quiet on the fact that they are shooting and killing every iraqui journalist, allong with all "american" journalists that take pictures or videos of stuff they don't want aired.

v0idnull,

You cant compare the Gulf War with this war. They were fought in very different styles. The gulf war took place primarily in desserts where the US forces could simply stay far enough away from Iraqi soldiers and simply use their advanced weaponry to defeat them. In this instance there was a great deal of urban warfare.

I think this war proved the incredable military might of the American government. The fact that it only took them 2 days (less) to secure Baghdad as well as 3 weeks to desrtoy the political body of Iraq is INCREDABLE! Any other nation would not be able to do so.

Also all your information about 100,000's Iraqis not enjoying their freedom and liberation from Iraq and opposing the war now needs to be backed up. From everything that i read they (Iraqi civilians) were opposed to the war out of fear for their lives but now that the US is in control the moods have been changing drastically. People are now relievd to be out of the hands of a dictator.

The next big issue is how the Western world will help rebuild Iraq. There is no telling how this will play out but I honestly believe through everything that I know about international relations that the country will be rebuilt in the intrest of Democracy.

They tried very hard to destroy the Ministry of Information in order to prevent Iraqi propaganda from spreading, and creating false loyalists to Saddam who would committing themselves to suicide bombing tactics, paramilitary, ect...

In anycase, the world does not get its news from CNN alone. Only people who chose to listen to CNN and only CNN will get a one sided story, which is why the whole concept of "embedded journalists" is flawed. Is this wrong? Sure. But from the US point of view, they don't want to show the horrors of war, they want to show victory. This way, there would be more support, and its working quite well.

But journalists that are reporting the other side of the story, or even both sides without biasism, were ordered to leave Iraq by the Iraqi government, including Al Jazeera, which spent most of its time reporting on civilian casualties, mistakes by the coalition forces, ect.

In anycase, so far, I'm quite pleased with CBC's coverage, they seem to show everyone's point of view without chosing a side and primarily focusing on it.

countries don't invest billions of dollars to rebuild a country out of the interest of freedom.

They do it out of personal gain.

In this case, the personal gain is cheaper oil, a front to wage war against the second axis of evil country Iran, ect.

But lets face it, more mistakes were made in a shorter period of time against a much weaker army. The US military is based on size and technology, but it lacks experience.

The Israeli army would've done a better job. Their military has been in use for almost 40 years non stop.

Pakistani and Indian militaries could also do a better job.

But if we are talking about military supremeacy, Pakistan, India and Isreal combined could not defeat the Americans...

The Definition of a super power (such as the states is) is that no country, or group of countries combined could defeat the one military

The US is not as powerful as you think it is.

It is vulnerable to a multitude of attacks. Granted, no country could actually invade the US right off the bat. But if the impossible situation that Pakistan, India, and Israel teamed up to defend Iraq from the US, Iraq would win without a doubt. it would be long, brutal, but the outcome will be on Iraq's side, not the US'.

whoa whoa whoa.... ISRAEL??? backing Iraq?? what are you crazy??
Israel commanded the US to attack Iraq... and the US being their bitch, did it. I can't possibly imagine how Israel could back Iraq.

But true nonetheless, should that unlikely scenario ever take place, the US would surely lose.

I did mention IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION.

Considering Pakistan hates India, India hates pakistan, and Israel hates everyone, they would never ally. But their militaries are tough enough to take on the US and win...

if a country like china wants to invade the US, they better get a good submarine force going otherwise they'd all be blown out of the water.
