thats ignorant

1) The village and pagoda are the hardest venues at Shamb. They are both playing at the village.

2) I have only ever heard one electro-house set at shamb
I'm feeling so long dental plan right now..

And I'm so happy that Excision is coming back...his set last year was one of the most destructive dubstep set I've ever heard.

bah, i was thinking of the breakbeat/electro *room* .As for dubstep ,you are right i have no clue about anything, cuz i don't like the genre in general. If you are hype to go there, fun for you.But don't mind if people like me are not that excited by this.

Don't put the blame on the line-up because of your lack of good musical knowledge.

Excuse me ? My lack of good musical knowledge ?

Hi, my name is Britz. I'm a production assistant for Shambhala Music Festival.

You're actually wrong, volunteers don't have to pay for their tickets. They have to bring us a $180 certified cheque which is returned to them upon completion of their shifts. If they've already bought a ticket, we refund it upon completion of their shifts. I call it 'flail insurance'.

Thanks for the tip. We'll be looking out for you this year, and you'll be put on the permanent blacklist. :)

Oh, and about our lineup; you may not recognize some of our DJs because they're either locals or up-and-comers. But looking at our lineup, I see quite a few headliners on there.

Besides that, Shambhala is more about the experience and the people than anything else. This isn't your typical rave. It's about the people, the costumes, and the atmosphere just as much as it about the music (have a look at these to get a feel for the festival: [ quana.exposuremanager.com ] There literally is something for (almost) everyone at our show. I could go on about it for ages, but it's one of those things that you can't understand until you experience it for yourself.

The people who are loyal to our show KNOW that the music is going to be good. It doesn't matter who's on the bill or whether they recognize the names. We sold 5000 tickets (1/2 of all available tickets) before we even released our lineup.

If the names on the bill aren't big enough for you, this isn't your kind of show. We're completely non-sponsored which we're extremely proud of (12 years going strong) but that also means we have less money to play with than sponsored events. I'd say we do amazingly well for what we've got to work with. :)

10 000 * 180 = 1 800 000. Its true tho. Shambhala is magical.

Haha. People always assume we make lots of money when they do the math. But seriously, most of it is in and out of our hands faster than you can blink. The infrastructure costs on building a city of 10,000 people for 5 days is huge.

On top of that, there are 6 full-time and 3 part-time staff year round. And we all have fairly modest wages. :)

Plus we're still paying for all the years the show DIDN'T make money.

I have no qualms. For 180, you get 3 nights of camping and get 12 sets. If you value the camping at 20 a night, the 3 nights at 40 a night...its worht going. And IMO you get a lot more value than that out of the festival. If Shambhala makes a profit, good for the organizers - its more a reflection of their ability to throw a party that delivers more in value than what it costs. Most raves in Toronto are 20$, and come with no headliners of the caliber Shambhala features. And anyways, my favorite sets more often than not include the locals (Akentec, Amanda Rude, Five Alarm Funk and Shameek (sp?) from last year come to mind).

The fact that Montreal and Toronto, which feature much larger collectives, can`t put on a festival of this caliber speaks to the quality of Shambhala.

My only sadness around shamb is the lack of hardcore and hard-dance. One day, can Pagoda have a night of such music? Its really the only genre the festival is missing.
