here we are trying to discover outer-space when we haven't even explored the totality of our own planet. only in this world is it easier to get off the planet than it is to get deep inside it. | | I'm feeling you up right now.. |

| yup yup!
we're planning on escaping to the moon while we destroy our oceans. irony would be that the only livable planet we find in the future, after Earth evicts us, will be one covered entirely in water.
or the planet really does flood, a la 'water world' ... then we discover many many fishies ;)
sorry, i meant sea-kittens. | | I'm feeling you up right now.. |

yup. it's great that there are still new species being discovered... for instance they recently discovered a new distinct species of big cat in Borneo which is pretty cool...
but sadly many more species - that only live in one tiny part of a rainforest, for example - are becoming extinct before we even learn about them
so much medicine could learn from some plants and they have already disappeared... just so some settlers can do slash-and-burn farming
there are tiny tribes of indigenous peoples in really remote areas that are in the same danger |

lol! I missed that one =)
but did the article include this one?? - it's a 32 foot Colossal Squid caught in Antarctica, weighing almost 1100 pounds. Apparently this one in the pics is a male, and females of this species are much larger

| lol! they mentioned that in one of the articles
"According to one squid expert, the colossal squid "would yield calamari rings the size of tractor tires," though apparently it wouldn't taste very good."
also, the tentacles have sharp swivelling hooks on them

here's a little useless trivia: did you know that, in Canada, the clip of a civilian semi-auto assault rifle is limited to 10 (instead of 30). How do they enforce that? the clips have a pin in them, thus blocking any more ammo from going in after 10. Did you know you can simply removing the pin with a few tools? lol. Ridiculous. Someone need to revised that law. |
|
Coolness: 87130
| I did indeed know that.
but honestly, the kind of people who feel they need a fully automatic machine gun are going to get one, just so long as they have the cash.
either steal it from a law-abiding collector and modify it, or -even easier-, just smuggle it in from the States.
gun laws aren't gonna stop serious bad guys from protecting their assets
some more gun-related trivia....
in Texas, 1 in 77 people has a license to carry a *concealed* handgun - like this Baby Glock - specially designed for concealment
interestingly... in the 1990s, after Texas passed their controversial "concealed carry" gun law, their murder rate dropped by 52%, and their rape rate dropped by 22%
make of that what you will... |
