pirate everything, that's what i say, just find a way to get it in a good high quality format for the sake of your listeners. However that being said, if you release a mix you should get legal versions
i know i'm gonna take a lot of flack for saying that from some people but i just don't think anybody should pay for content anymore,
I'm feeling surly right now.. |

^ what he said
there's nothing wrong with free mp3's, as long as they're 320 and the original mix itself :P Actually, I find it way better than vinyl...since I have FS. |

well, the vinyl medium usually has more bass but less mid and WAY less highs than mp3/cd's
i personally prefer the digital media because of this, i like my high crisps and clear. and when its free by the artists, its the same as paying for the track, but downloading it illegally is another game.

Corrigez-moi si je me trompe mais acheter une track en ligne ne donne pas (techniquement) le droit de la jouer en public.

then you're unbooked for Rewire! hahaha...kidding :P Update » Nathan wrote on Tue Dec 9, 2008 @ 5:14pm ...and E73V3N, i think that once you've payed for a song, you can play it when/where you want. Most electronic artists that sell their music assume it's to DJs, plus it's great exposure for a musician.
my 1/2 a cent. | |

eleven, yes once you've purchased a track online, you have every legal right to play it wherever you want, as long as it's released by the actual label itself and it's not some bootleg. |

yeah, only thing is that you cannot sell your mixes even though you bought the tracks, but that's pretty obvious. |

^^^
agreed. people would do that all the time though. I really don't mind that, cuz I grew up with hip hop, techno, house and jungle mixtapes. back then in the early to mid-90s, unless I taped it off the radio, going to a store and buyin em was the only way I'd get to hear the music. ethics aside... with the internet now, and the availability of so much good music online, I don't even know if someone could make much selling mixes in stores anymore... unless you are a really big name DJ/producer selling a mix with VIP dubplates and unreleased shit that people can't hear anywhere else maybe I'm wrong though. me personally I never sold one mix CD. I've probably handed out about 1000 of em though, over the years. I would get a spool of 100 blank silver CDs in Chinatown for 30 bucks, burn my mixes, tag my name with a sharpie, and hand em out. it's good promo |
