Montreal'S Subtone & Stalker Plagiarized By "fake" Bulgarian Producer!

I coulnd't believe I would get a link to something like this ever, and nor did
Dave (Subtone) I'm sure. But to those who know the Montreal Drum'n'Bass/Neurofunk/Breaks production duo Fortress aka Subtone & Stalker we're recently fucked over by fake producer from bulgaria. He stole one of their tracks, re-edited it with more breaks and sounds layered on top and has managed to get it signed by a minor label and is selling it on beatport right now! He also managed to get recognition in Knowledge Magazine for these supposed "Original Tracks" he's produced. I smell a huge lawsuit. Follow the link and read up on this, it's fucking crazy... Wow. That's fucked up. There is no denying it is the exact same track. I mean, the breakdown is exactly the same, the samples are ALL the same as well, aside from an extra layer of drums.
If only the guy pretended to make it sound like a different track but he kept it in its original state pretty much down to the BPM itself. I hope Subtone's label sues the guy for this.

Well my advice to you my friend is too fight this guy as hard as possible
I remember when a certain local crew tried to take credit for an original clubnight I'd been running for nearly 5 years. To make it even worse I had basically helped them out by involving them in my established clubnight beause they had nothing going for them at the time and they then turned around and tried to steal it (and take credit for my work) It really pissed me off at the time that people would lack so much integrity but I decided to fight back and today I am very happy I did. I'd say make as big a stink as possible, denounce him on every message board you can find. The worse thing that can happen is that you'll get a lot of publicity from all this :)

Something like this happened with a book my grandmama wrote. It was already copy righted, but some woman in germany was blatently breaking copyright laws and selling it as her own. The international laws and legal process is a bitch though...so it wasnt worth doing anything over.

Copy "artists" know they can get away with it because of the slow painful and expensive procedure that applies to international lawsuits.

anywhere but in the u.s. there you could get "fap-suit" on top of that, having to pay the pagitar
because he has more money for the lawers... people get discourage pretty quick on this one , but there are some org that are there for that. the more they nab the pleasy-er they get. they just take a share too in the end , but they work the job. then you could re-suit after for having the other dude pay them. get a private eye helps too, i do get that shoping in that bizness is hard too, and nailing ppl overseas is a bitch. but AT LEAST UR not getting fucked like you could have in the states

Yeh it's easy to say, doing is a lot harder.
Like realistically if you wanted to pull a "Goldie" as they say, you would need body guards that are able to twist your head off like a doll, a good lawyer on stand by and to be prepared to face criminal charges in another country. Going there with a cd booklet/laptop and your word will either get you hurt, or even perhaps killed, especially going alone. This is music, not cocaine. Civilized measurements will take place I'm sure, nobody will resort to violence. I don't even recall hearing anything about the Hip Hop scene regarding ppl getting killed over tunes. But I'm sure some have been severely broken or hurt. |

I just get worked up over that shit, you know. Your music is something really personal and it reflects your thoughts and emotions as a human being. For somebody to just go and blatantly steal it is such an act of disrespect. I know you can empathize with me on this one Alex.

Bro of COURSE
I'm just saying the Goldie method doesn't always work haha I don't even know what I would do if I woke up and found my tracks on someone's webspace, because a) they're unfinished tracks b) I'm not signed, therefor it's my word against there's and c) I don't rly have any friends or legal recourse it would be a complete nightmare |
